I could do that... it was pretty easy to put together after i changed some settings on Sony Vegas to prevent ghosting. I might have to borrow a third battery from Ben for the GoPro so i don't miss anything this time.

I would like to do a larger turbo, but this happened at a bad time. So i am doing the basics to setup for the future. If i did the turbo, i would want to do the tranny too.

    Machine the engine
    Manley pistons,
    ACL race bearings,
    Main and connecting rods,
Manley turbo tuff i beam connecting rods
    Head Gasket Studs (AMR... IIRC?!?)
Subaru Gasket Kit (for Head Gasket)
Air pump delete. Already had the pump removed. Now we are removing the lines and gasket/covers for the engine.

Will that then become the weak link? I'm only asking because I'm not sure. Don't most go with Nitrited STI crank?

Still also running stock transmission. I'll have to do more work if i want to go larger correctly. Not sure what the stock setup can hold HP wise. So i can't really answer your question.

Can I ask why i-beams over h-beams but no crank? I'm wrestling with those decisions myself. "Everything" isn't an option.

Crank? Use stock. You want other good quality aftermarket crank? It'll cost as much as your build ;)

Looks great Ben. Thanks for the photos.... it's so clean. Did you do that or was it the work of NF?

Edit... just noticed some residue from my gasket maker. I need to pick up a GS gasket when I put this all back together. The IPR TMIC one that I have sucks balls.

I cleaned it. I removed as much of the gasket maker as I could. The sealing surface is flat, but there is still some silicone visible.

GrimmSpeed doesn't make that gasket yet. Hopefully their 08+ TMIC gaskets come out soon because I'm sure a lot of people could use them!

The OEM TMIC seal is an o-ring type gasket. It allows for a reasonable amount of "squeeze" and usually creates a good seal.

The IPR TMIC has an o-ring gland, but I do not believe it actually comes with an o-ring. Only a flat, hard plastic "gasket" or spacer.

The spacer is not likely to seal well, and I believe Derek found this out, and that's why he used silicone.

Instead of using the spacer you could buy an o-ring to fit the gland (the OEM one will not so you'd just have to go the hardware store and see what fits), but I don't know how well it will seal, because it will be an o-ring with a relatively small cross section (due to the dimensions of the gland). If you go that route, then don't use the spacer, unless you're still going to do silicone on the bottom of the spacer.

Honestly the silicone may be the best option. I tried the gasket/spacer, and nothing else, and it didn't seal well. Then I went to just the o-ring and it did seem to work OK, but it wasn't perfect. The silicone is a mess (especially if you have to take it on and off a lot), but it should do the job pretty well. The other option (that I didn't try) is to cut a custom gasket yourself. Just find some gasket material from the auto parts store and trace out your pattern and cut.

I have a template. However, don't we want a gasket like material. Similar to a crush washer. I think since the turbo and TMIC are not perfect surfaces it may leak when we have a perfect gasket. We want something that we can tighten down and flatten.... right?

I can cut the gasket out of any sort of gasket material. We cut gaskets on the jet all of the time.

That picture is fantastic. I love that my video is sped up to like 1800X normal speed and you find this awesome shot. It has so much going on..... hat 1/2 on, safety glasses from draining the coolant, me ripping old white t-shirts for rags, and i might be pooping.
