I sure hope that Toyota wouldn't influence Subaru too much. Look what happened to the sports cars of Toyota, o wait they don't have any anymore.

The real deal is that Toyota wants to use the Subaru Plant in Indiana to build more of there cars...Since they aren't building Isuzus there anymore...

Plus it wouldn't hurt for us to use their R&D on Hybrid Technology Toyota has to offer...

    4. Subaru would be the loser. We might get all wheel drive Corollas re-badged as WRX's. Lame.

    thought was funny :D

I wouldn't worry about it...If they want to rebadge the Corolla as an Impreza. I say go for it...That means we are doing something right...But I doubt that is going to happen

Yuck! And I'm sure something like this will happen. Subaru's awd system and boxer engine is more expensive than other manufacturer's light car awd systems (based on a more traditional transverse fwd setup).

I hope Toyota understands Subaru's niche. But likely marketing will have their way and then the enthusiast will lose. =)

from what the reps tell me...The Subaru AWD system only works with the boxer engine...unless toyota wants to do a full 180 spin...I doubt they will be building a boxer anything soon...

That's what I'm saying. If Toyota owns all of Subaru, then no one will be building boxer anything because the subaru awd/boxer configuration costs more money. They will still have Subarus but Toyota will cost reduce the cars by putting some watered down transverse fwd based awd system in the Subaru version because all the general consumer cares about is if its a subaru and it says awd on it. Then Toyota can use the same chassis and build fwd corollas.

The general consumers will probably prefer this cause inline 4s are smoother and now it has the reliability (and the boredom) of Toyota.

Of course this is just my speculation but I wouldn't be surprised if thats what happens.

"new law opens path for Toyota takeover of Subaru"

Just commenting on the article and speculating what could happen. On the plus side, at least subaru is developing a boxer diesel engine.

GM had 20% and took the Impreza for the 9-2x. It would not take much more than that to take over the Board of Directors and force in a new CEO and new management.

Subaru could benefit from better paint, but I don't see what Toyota needs from Subaru, unless they want to have a performance oriented brand. But then, that'll just dilute Subaru with Toyota crap.

    Back, Satan!
