i just noticed a significant amount of oil in my drive way. both the filter and plug were checked and tight. i dont have access to a garage tonight and its to cold outside to check things out. anyone know what the potential problems could be?
Erik got you covered on that. Probably the left (drivers) side head gasket. The colder it gets, the more we see!
Search it man, i know Ryan just did this and commented on using STI gaskets or something along those lines
ok change of situation. i inspected the engine bay and saw fluid all around the power steering area. i then checked the fluid on the ground and it appears to be PS fluid.. YEY. if its around the resi. then it wouldnt be a pump would it?
the pump may be just unable to pump the fluid do to it being fricken cold out right now. It is more then likely just agitating the fluid causing the bubbling you see. once the fluid warms up it should go away, you could also try a synthetic fluid. See if the pump is better able to move the synthetic in the cold weather.
hehe, you're lucky it's not your headgaskets. That is NOT something you want to attempt yourself, unless you know what are you are doing and have the magical subaru tool.
Yeah, as mentioned my guess is frozen power steering fluid. Ever had it flushed? Take it to a shop and have your PS fluid flushed. Not that spendy, if I remember correctly.
Hope you all know that Subaru's do not use power steering fluid? Subaru requires you to use ATF fluid.
how much would i need and how much is it? also the problem seemed to wain itself out but i still want to change the fluid after the scare.
