Ok, its getting to be that time. Worker registration is open and the hotels are filling up. He is the current info page. http://www.ojibweforestrally.com/lodging.php If you have any questions, fire away. I will be heading up Friday morning, so if anyone wants to meet up for the trip up let me know. We need to be in Bemidji before 11am on Friday. Also for the vets, Northern inn is currently no the headquarters, so watch the link for future updates. Last time I checked, Super 8 was the only place that was doing a friday/saturday night stay. Russ
I'm game for camping. The wife should be coming as well. Russ, I would love to join the caravan on the way up.
I have been trying to get up there with friends whether its camping out or lodging. So far my schedule looks to be open. I don't mind working. We need to jump on this quickly as this is a insane event.
Don't forget that you have an opportunity to drive the roads before the race (i.e. not closed roads, but still fun), too. Bannering! Amy will be getting you more information in the near future.
The nearby KOA always has spots open, plus it's super close and cheap cheap cheap. Driving the roads beforehand is by far the best part. Last year I had the pleasure of cruising behind the lead worker escort car, an S4, with a former Ojibwe winner. We were hauling ass
just dont get to crazy on the before hand. It would suck if a stage was closed because some one was screwing around and something hapend.
Totally, totally. We were going quickly, but not so much as to be crazy quick. 20mph through the woods feels a lot faster than it is
I would suggest that you make your plans ASAP. Everyone waits till the last minute and we are getting close to what people call the last minute. Seriously. If you plan on going, make the commitment now, because everything will dry up in a matter of 2 days once everyone decides its time to finalize plans. The area also lost 300 or so hotel rooms which will make this go even quicker. The other thing to remember about camping, if you are not close to HQ, you will be doing TONS of driving. Last year we got back to the hotel at 3am after picking a car out of the trees and we had to be on the road at noon the next day. That means, breakfast, gas, snacks, and the worker meeting all had to be taken care of before we headed out to the woods. Russ
We will definitely need all the help we can get for bannering, especially on Friday. We don't have plans set in stone for bannering yet, but I expect we will be meeting outside of registration at 8:30 a.m. both Friday and Saturday (same as last year). We are also going to try and come up with an incentive of some kind for helping debanner on Sunday . De/Bannering is definitely one of the jobs where many hands make light work. Anyone that wants to help out on Thursday. I could use a few people to help me try and get most, if not all, of Saturday's stages done on Thursday. Last year I had two people helping me in my car on Thursday and we got all but stages 10 and 15 done. We also got to hang out with the teams for practice stage. If we get Saturday's stages bannered Thursday we can all sleep in on Saturday. Now that would be nice! Sign up now to volunteer, I think there is a special shirt or something for signing up early. Don't forget to check bannering if you can help. Pm me directly if you can/want to help bannering on Thursday. You will still work another job besides bannering, so don't worry about not seeing any action. http://www.ojibweforestrally.com/workers.php If you are not familiar with the different things to volunteer for check out the Rally Volunteering thread here http://www.mnsubaru.com/forums/showthread.php?t=17532 Amy
I can't believe I'm not going to make it this year. This will be the first time I've missed Ojibwe in like 3 or 4 years! Unfortunately, I'll be in Canada fishing with my step-dad. Which is still pretty frickin' sweet
I'm there, I'm going to e-mail Bob and fill out the worker registration form! Sound like fun, I've done a couple events in the past like this, Mainly Moto X and cross contry snowmobile races.
Was that the Talon that flipped/rolled down to the left after clipping a rock on the embankment? I gave a ride to the Driver/CoDriver back to HQ on that one. They were not happy, ie. lots of yelling from my backseat about blame.
Nope, it was Kenny Bartum. By time we got to the talon, there was nothing we could do. They needed to get the big wrecker out for that one. This the mess we had to deal with.
I wish! I've been talking to so many people about going to this and now I can't :emo:. If my step-dad wasn't super pumped about going on this trip I'd skip it and go to the rally. But don't forget, there's always LSPR  Party!!!
If you worked the final stage of the night and was held up for a long time, we were the reason. We had to roll his can onto the roof and over to get it out, or cut down about 25 trees. I will have to dig up my pics of the talon tonight and get those posted. Russ
The worker registration for the 2008 Ojibwe Forests Rally is open. Please sign up if you intend to work the event. This year we have a special OFR wearable worker prize for those that pre-register online before August 15th. Be sure to get yours when you finalize your registration and get your assignment when you check in at Worker Registration in Bemidji. There are some very important changes this year. Check out the Ojibwe website at www.ojibweforestrally.com. Worker registration is Friday Aug 22 from 9 am to noon and Saturday Aug 23 from 9 am to 10 am. Worker School is Friday August 22 at 1 pm, followed by the worker meeting at 2pm. Workers will again meet Saturday Aug 23 at 10 am. Thanks Bob Carter Chief of Controls
Don't think I've forgotten about you wingnuts holding us up with your little photo shoot. I so should've bailed and went reverse course. Normally forbidden but the rally was over for the day. There was NO more rally. Just us fools sitting in the woods watching Russ and company schmooze with Kenny before getting down to the business of car removal. Personally, I like your shot of Kenny head first into the window. Amy
Well sounds like Carl and I plan to get a group to camp in the Paul Bunyan ... stay tuned for a new thread with details.
You might want to think about the KOA. From what Russ told me it can be a long haul to the state park and back. Also the KOA should have showers.
I will be going to the Lake Bemidji State Park. It is on the opposite side of the lake but that is only 4.9 miles away from the the actual city of bemidji. if anyone thinks this is a long drive, I will personally shat in your gas tank
People should sign up to be workers, its really fun, and you get to watch the rally from places other people dont get to go. I would be a worker, But I believe I am servicing.
As we all get excited about Ojibwe Forests Rally, please don't forget about Nemadji Trail II coming up in just over a week on July 26. It is close, not hotel necessary and is going to be a lot of fun. We still need volunteers. Please email me at ccarlsondds(at)comcast(dot)net with any questions. See you in the Woods, Carrie Carlson
Ok, if you just watch, you will have 4-5 locations to pick from each night. Those locations are the locations that EVERYONE that does not work have to go to. So it will be you and 50+ of your closest friends. Best of luck. Seriously, if you can make it up in time, you work. If you tell them that you are a newb and you are scared, you might work in a small group. Bob will dump me on a corner by myself. If you work, you will be sitting on some corner with a small group (less than 6-8 people). Also, working consists of making sure the banner is crossing the road, watching the cars go by, and then pulling down the banner (if you location changes) and going to the next location. Most times when I marshal, I can shoot 300+ pics a day, and most of those are the pro's going by. Russ
it's a state park, they should take reservations. I'll call this weekend when we get back from nemadji
