So I've always been in love with Subaru's ever since my mother bought a 2002 WRX when they first came out. Now that I can finally afford one (and want to get rid of my current car(s)) I've been searching and reading everything I can find about them. So I ask you: What should I know? What kind of problem areas are there? Anything I should watch out for when buying one? Thanks a lot guys I hope to really be a part of this community! -Chris
Congrats! Can you provide more details, I can't really say much until you narrow down what your looking for... New or used? WRX? If used, what model years are you thinking of (or how much do you have to spend). What do you want to do with/to the car? One thing I can say off the bat is, if it's a turbo car, it needs 91oct and the gas mileage probably won't blow you away (unless you keep your foot off the loud pedal, and where's the fun in that? : )
Subaru turbo cars: check oil frequently don't use Mobil 1 some people ignore the premium gas requirement lose the factory tune as soon as you can Subaru non turbo cars: pre2012 2.5l engines have head gasket issues All: Subaru's have ****ty paint jobs my .02.
What they are trying to say is, buy an Evo. Im kidding.. But yea budget and what you need the car to be able to do would be a helpful aswell.
Yea sorry, What my end goal is a fun daily driver. Preferably a lightly modded used WRX. I'm really open to any year and have a limit of about 10k (very flexible) I'll be picking the car up at the end of July. Also to throw out there, I'm not a newcomer when it comes to cars (I restore classic cars with my father/grandfather) I am however a new comer to pretty much anything not an american V8 hahahaha. Thanks a lot guys so far the answers are super helpful!
My .02 for buying a used wrx. If there is a CEL, don't take the previous owners word and scan it yourself. Thrash it left and right to feel how tight the front end is. Make sure its boosting 14 psi (.1 mpa), if its a stock WRX. Also i would check every single hose you can see/touch for hardness/brittleness. Also, the 5 speeds don't shift into first unless your basically stopped, so if your grinding trying to shift into first at 5-10 mph that's normal, and don't do it lol.
