The course will be in the same location, but the layout may be somewhat different, as the field was used to grow soybeans this summer, so the old course got plowed under and a new one will be groomed for this event. It will be similar however, and the sheer size of the venue allows us to do a lot.
I kinda wish I had some good tires for this. I may have to grab my Nokian WRs and see how well I do with them. It sounds like fun. I don't suppose MAC gets a discount too?
The WR's should do fairly well. Ive been using a set of X-ice snow tires with good results. Im still trying to decide if i want to submit my new WR G2's to the abuse or some old kind of worn gravel tires i have.
The only thing I don't like about the WRs is the V tread. They have crap for initial bite, so you're forced to work at high attack angles to get solid bite. It's fine if you want to drift everything, but it sucks for responsiveness in an off-road application. I just have a preference towards a good, squared off tread. Firestone's Indy 500 tires are the best things I've used on gravel/dirt. I wouldn't mind owning a pair again if I didn't already have a dedicated summer and winter tire. The single ply sidewall, although luxurious on ride, is really squishy, lol. The WRs are similar if you don't keep the pressures up around 40psi or higher. Those WR G2s look sexy. I'm curious how much they differ from the WR. Ever post Temp/Traction/Treadware info in your other thread? NVM, you did. I think their design would work well off-road.
I cannot wait for this event, I plan to make it assuming I can get some new mounts installed by then. Been wanting to do this for a very long time...
There's the registration form and the identification form to fill out... If I pre-register online, does this cover one of these? I found the registration pdf but no "identification" one. Is that the pre-register one?
The identification form is just a form to write a number on to tape on to your window. Pre-registering will mean that there will be a form at registration with your information pre-filled out (probably. that's my job, and my rallycross car is only running on 3 cyls, so I'm a bit distracted). All you have to do ahead of time is pre-register. You don't even have to do that, but we really want you to.
Ok. Then I'm set I guess. I just got my in-car cam mount today, so I'm psyched about that, seems to work plenty well too just dinking around on some back roads.
Cool. Once I get my harness bar in, I'll build a mount onto that. Just make sure what you've got is nice and solid, as we can't allow anything loose in the car. And share a copy of the video with me so I can use it to promote future events
Yeah, it mounted to the headrest. It does screw down sold and won't move. Unless the headrest flys off, it really can't go anywhere. http://www.cruisecam.com/Mount_new.pdf I did take a couple little vids of some light driving down a nearby gravel road, throwing them on Youtube for ease. The first is attached to the front seat, the second to the rear seat. The camera is a Fujifilm Finepix F30, compressed in Divx, then whatever Youtube does too. ...seems to work decently well.
Anyone get any action pictures? I was only able to take a few in the paddocks, wasnt looking to carry the SLR around in the field in the rain. http://oksubaru.com/gallery/main.php?g2_itemId=5764&g2_page=3
I have to grab some of the movies from my friend and my brother. Otherwise I have some "after" pictures of dirt as well Probably get some of those up this weekend.
