The Bolivian Highway of Death is dangerous enough with clear pavement. No way I'm driving it when it's sand-covered. Keep it between the ditches and we’ll see you on Sunday, November 9th!
Hey look, I had the only Subaru on this drive! Someone else needs to join next time. This was a great time, and I'm looking forward to making it again.
Last tour we had over 50 people in 30 cars. Should be about the same on the 9th, assuming the weather cooperates.
Latest forecast is calling for sunny skies and 40 degrees in the tour area. PERFECT weather for turbos!
I'll probably come if it's not to cold for my RE-01Rs to get one last run on them. /Not changing to winters til next week unless it snows.
Ha, this same event was posted on my mr2 forum..and as i said there I'm not sure if i'll be able to make this one
You'll be fine on the Bridgestones as long as you generate some good slip angles at the beginning of the tour to heat them up. County Road J out of Stockholm is the perfect road for that!
Yeah, we'll probably get a dusting of snow on Friday, but hopefully it won't be enough to bring the sand trucks out. I'm in contact with my spotters in the area. They will let me know if sand gets put down. That's the only thing that would cause me to cancel the tour. I'll know for sure by Saturday so watch this thread!
The Old Man Winter Tour is living up to its name! I just called Colleen at Bogus Creek Café and the Cenex in Mondovi. They said they haven't seen any salt or sand trucks and word on the street is there won't be any snow sticking to it. They're getting light snow now and it's supposed to quit by tomorrow with very little accumulation. If there are any sand trucks out in the tour area, I will cancel. Should know for sure by tomorrow morning. Stay tuned!
I would be surprised if they do salt or sand. It usually takes a fair amount of accumulation before they will. I jsut talked to a friend in Roch. he said there's hardly any snow coming down there
The Old Man Winter Tour is GO for tomorrow! I just talked with my spotters in the tour area. They say the roads are clear. No sand or salt. And the forecast for tomorrow looks dry. See you there!
Good times. Thanks to retreif for loaning me some stickies, they made a huge difference on this tour. Anyone who hasn't gone on one of Tom's tours is seriously missing out.
Think of these events like going to the track. If your clutch is slipping and your brake pads aren't up to snuff they will be worse at the end if you don't pay for it in another way. Like sliding/rolling off a cliff.
I realize that. My clutch has been slipping off and on since mid-late summer, though, so it was only a matter of time, and I've just been putting it off. The brake pads, on the other hand, I figured were going to be a bit better than they were. I'll run them through winter and get a decent set of ceramics for next season.
Well, I think you are...silly... to go on a event like this with ill prepared or questionable equipment. Better to sit one out than drive on the question mark.
