Hey i was wondering if any one can help me. I was hoping i could get an exlpantion of the older awd/4wd drive systems (from the 80's). How they work, if newer one fits in the older models (rx and gl) and so on any help would be great.

I am not 100% on how they work. chux would be able to tell you in detail. It is possible to swap a newer transmission into a older car however you would have to make sure and do the engine too. It might not fit quite right, but it should work. You cannot put a EA motor onto an EJ tranny without some odd modifications. it works the other way (ej motor to ea trans) alright since the adpater plate is also a spacer.

i cant see a reason to ever swap any EA engine into an chassis that had ANY EJ motor

There are reasons ;-) they are kind of far fetched though.

That should not be a problem. you will need to secure an adapter plate (like $160 i think) in order for the motor to bolt up to the tranny. then its all wiring goodness. sounds like it would be an insanely fun car!

yeah ej22tim got me into those legacy turbos i was thinking about mayeb puting the h6 (either the 3.3 or 3.0) in there but i dont think it will fit. Also i was thinking of bolting on a newer tranny though i dont know the advantages/ disadvantages of any of the trannys. But i guess i can save that for a different tread
