And now that I see what a jackoff you can be, I am almost positive that you were the punk ass whiner that deleted the posts. I apologize for asking you for PHP help, I'm glad you are such a ****ing guru at making php code to draw up insults and whatnot. 2.) I'm just confused as to why this website will exist and why everyone is getting so excited about it? It just seems meaningless to me. I'll stay out of it now though. It would be a good chance to learn some PHP/ASP.

3.) Nope, I don't think I ever deleted any posts of yours. I did fairly little "moderating", I left that up to the moderators.


After being so negative I feel like I should give you some helpful adive:

1.) Don't use PHP-Nuke. It would be a very bad decision. In the beginning it seems simple to use, but in the end its a hassle. The mods are weak are much more complicated to use than on a bulletin board. Plus they release a new version about every week because of security problems.

2.) If you are serious about making it "big", skip the open source boards, buy vbulletin. It's worth every penny.

And thank you for the reply man, I'm sorry for getting so bent, but it seems like you want this project to fail. Which is fine.
I think what people are excited about is a community that brings more than just MNSubaru guys together that isn't restricted to just car enthusiasts. I'm not ****ting you, I had close to 500 hits today. I didnt' even look at the site today except to update the contest page. That to me is pretty exciting. And that is what makes me want to follow thru. This has been on the back burner for some time. I have always had the desire to start my own community. Now is the time I've decided.

I'll look into V bulletin, I know a couple boards use it and it is pretty nice. I am going for ease of use for now since I am new. I know alot of boards have migration tools for moving from one board database to the next, so if the time comes to go to v-bulletin, I'll do it. But for now, cheap and easy is the way that goes. I like php=nuke now since there isn't a whole lot going on ont eh site. But down the road, as things pick up, I might move to something a little more sophisticated.

Yeah, I read my first reply.. I thought it would have been more funny that degrading... Apparently not.

You're going to have to try hard though to keep content fresh and updated. Otherwise it will get old fast and people will just stop going. Number of members doesn't matter, its all in the active members. (e.g. MNsubaru, where 15% actually post).

vbulletin is used by most large boards. Seriously though, stay away from php-nuke. When I ran a website with it, it got hacked once which was fun, then moving the data to vbulletin was a pain. I moved wrxhackers.com from phpnuke to vbulletin and it was such a pain (took like 6 hours). A good deal of data gets lost because of the way php-nuke manages users. That was back in the 6.5 days though, idk if its improved. All I remember is it was slow as hell for some reason, probably because of the massive amounts of queries it had to perform just the view a page.

And I'm not pissed that you asked me about PHP, I'll give advice. I just don't want to feel responsible for programming for another website.


P.S. Before someone goes "YOU SPENT SAT NIGHT ON A COMPUTER WRITING CODE FOR NO REASON". I was at a party, it was pretty lame, all my friends decided to go to the bar, but I'm not old enough. Plus, our comparative language assignment was to write basically what I posted. I just added the swear words.

 

Thanks for the ideas Steve. I'm glad I didn't go with PHP-Nuke at this point. I like the new layout much much better than the PHP-Nuke version. And I learned alot in the process.
