You know damn well why it is funny, either that or you've lived under a rock your whole life. But in the effort to give you the benefit of the doubt, I'll go ahead and spell it out for you. A 'faggot' in the U.S. is a slang term for a homosexual. Which is why the older child in the picture looks so enthused.
I'm playing dumb. As a Brit, I knew what these terms meant long before the MTV generation twisted them around.
