I found a good deal on a 2003 WRX Sedan with 88k on it. It drives and boosts well, the exterior and interior appear to be in good shape. One thing that worries me is a atmospheric blow off valve and a cold air intake. The ECU is throwing codes due to these mods. Should I stay away? I would convert it back to stock parts if I got it.

Unknown, the car is at a small dealer. I know the guy. He specializes in performance cars.

which cai and bov? Mine came with both of those and it seems ok. I have dumped the bov for the stock one and may put a forge bpv on. I believe that if the CAI is near 2.65" inside (stock diameter) it should be ok.

What are the codes?? A cai and bov shouldn't really throw any codes. I would figure out what the codes are and go from there.

If you're serious about that particular car ask the dealer to allow you to take it to a subie dealer or reputable shop and have them inspect it.

On the surface- I would hesitate to buy any car throwing codes while on the car lot...but that's just me

Go for a test-drive and bring along somebody with a laptop and a tactrix cable. That'll tell you everything real fast.

Mine didn't throw a code when I had my K&N typhoon setup in the CAI, but when I changed it to the short ram it did.

A car with just those two mods... The person obviously didn't do too much research about the car and probably drove the thing pretty hard. Why wouldn't he or she have? Risky, but there are always risks on good deals for used cars. It's part of the game.

I bought mine used, from a dealership out in Michigan. Had a Subie dealer check it out, no problems, I've replaced my clutch, and breaks thats about the only things that have gone out on it so far. Not too bad since its an 02.

It kind of reminds me of my friend who kept me from buying a used Evo. He swore up and down that every Evo was put away wet, and to only buy new. Alas, I could not afford a new Evo, and here I be in Subie land...

Which is a fun place to be, but I'd like to have a car that can beat up on those pesky 2.5's without worrying about the tranny. Seems like the requirements to take a 2.0 up the power tree get worse every time I think about it... :(
