OK so in Vegas the other week our DSLR was stolen at the rental place... so we have decided to replace it with a smaller point and shoot... thats where the confusions starts... haha seems everyone has a differing opinion... I have always heard Canon is the best for point and shoot, while Nikon is better in the DSLR range... A far as I know they are all on par nowadays... budget $250 tops (that would be high end) prefer under $200.. not sure exactly what I am after... my brain is so damn mixed now from reading about them all I forget which ones I really liked some things I basically want... Good Crisp photos in all light (best case) HD Video would be nice but not important easy to use good balance between macro and zoom style lense touchscreen - fun but not important options - like removing all color except a selected one (not sure of the name) but Beth and Bill have a canon that she eliminated all colors but green at our lake when it was nasty and all the green weed showed up... I mean through the hair, clothes etc.. was real cool.. and that was built in not a software thing.. any opinions, thoughts, experience is greatly appreciated.. Id love to go buy one tomorrow but I wont be jumping the decision till I get good feedback thanks and Safe and Merry Christmas to you all
My recommendation... take a memory card to the store. Pop it into some of the camera's there. keep track on which camera takes which picture. go home. Look at the picture full size. see which ones take the best pictures in the store. narrow the search down. then go to a different store (that has different lighting) and do the test again. I'd say start with Bad Buy and then go to National Camera. Bad Buy is bright and easy to take pictures in. Nat Cam is generally darker and will be a good test for lower light.
First off, sorry to hear about your DSLR! Some people are just pathetic. I just picked up a Nikon L110. Currently on sale for $199. 15x zoom, 12mp. I like it, doesn't do the best in low light but with a little ISO adjustments and reading you can take some great pictures. Shoots 720p up to 29 mins according to the user manual. Uses SD and HCSD cards. Uses 4 AA batteries. Mine came with 4 lithium batteries which have been holding strong with a few hours of taking pictures already. It doesn't have a touchscreen but has a generous 3.5inch LCD (I think). It doesn't have an option to remove certain colors or keep certain colors. Basically what it comes down to for a P&S is that you aren't going to get DSLR pictures from one. Your lenses and sensors aren't going to be anything close to a DSLR. But for a tight budget i'd say the L110 is a bang for your buck. Nikon has a great website readily available for techniques and tips also. The L110 also comes with some handy software (panorama creator, imported, etc.) I haven't played around with any of the new Canons but I continuously hear great things about them. My girlfriend has a 5 year old or so Powershot G6 that still takes great pictures.
That's a good camera. Replaced by the s95 which is the same as the g12 but more compact. So that's just about as good as you can get before DSLR.
The FH20 isn't even close to the S90 or S95. Seriously try for a used S90. Mine is mint if you're interested.
