Big shout out to Mike at Morries Minnetonka Subaru for helping me out with ordering my new Subaru! I will be waiting impatiently for it to arrive in January!
Blonde in a blue STI. Paging @Nhibbs @ShortytheFirefighter @derp @theentirespottedthread GL. Be safe.
Finally! We have been searching for the blonde in the blue STI for YEARS!!! Who wants to setup a meat and greet?
New AWD turbo car delivered in January...in before for the inevitable wheel curbing. I'll stop back here February 1st.
I hope you have some snow tires on order and have them installed before you drive home from the dealership. That's all. Not dissing your mad driving skillz, it's just all that youthful exuberance mixed with the intoxicating elixir of a new car.
Well let me put it to you this way, I'm a highly experienced driver that knows what the f I'm doing. Good looking out tho.
I would be shocked if they let her drive it home in Jan from Morries Minnetonka without making that recommendation. When I bought my 2011 WRX it was winter and my salesperson would not let me take delivery until winter tires were put on.
Seriously? They made you put snow tires on it? I'd say you got dooped into buying tires. I work at a car dealership and im pretty sure you cant make someone buy snow tires for their car.
= As classy as they come when someone doesnt know what they are talking about, and open their mouth. You go ahead and put that $10 on the curb, if you are so sure of yourself, make it $100. I'll take your money any day!
You do realize that these cars come standard with summer tires, and that there is a substantial difference between "summer" tires and "snow" tires? He wasn't "dooped", it's an actual safety issue for both you and other cars on the road. It doesn't matter if you're God's gift to the steering wheel, if your tires have no traction then it's just a question of physics. There are a couple of 2015 owners on here who found out the hard way about the stock tires in winter weather, and budgeting for a set of winter wheels/tires is going to save you a lot of hassle in both the long and short run.
OP do yourself a favor and buy these tires: https://mnsubaru.com/threads/bridge...s-ws70-excellent-condition.50353/#post-824827
Nice, congrats on the order! What made you go with the STI over the WRX? I love the WRB on the new body styles! After seeing it in person I think I would have gotten WRB if White hadn't been available.
You guys are completely incorrect, driving on RE070's in winter will surely be exciting. Who is making the next bag of popcorn?
I was not told what tires come on it. I do appreciate you being mature about telling me this vs being rude like the some other people on here. i will look into different tires for the winter.
You wouldn't be the first, when I worked at BP Subaru we had a guy do 10k in damage to his 05 because he wasn't told what tires came on his car and went out driving in a blizzard. It took a good 20 minutes for me to explain why he crashed. If you can swing it, the best route would be a separate set of wheels and tires with a second set of TPMS sensors. Tirerack usually has some really good deals on them, and wheels and tires can be had on the secondary market for cheapish if you want to go that route.
Samaritan Tire in Minnetonka usually has awesome prices too. They're usually able to match or beat prices as well. Last time I bought a set of wheels from them, they came in shipped at a cheaper price than tire rack wanted before shipping.
I picked up a new winter setup this year, 17x7.5 Sparco Terras from Tirerack which clear the brembos just fine and are reasonably priced. I had been using good snow tires on the OEM 18s with but was never that impressed with them. Subaru TPMS is a pain but I agree it's worth having 2 sets of wheels/tires.
I bought Michelin X-Ice XI3's in 245/40 R18 from Discount Tire thrown on the stock 18's. They have a $70 Michelin rebate going right now, plus I financed through DT so I got another $50 rebate as well which I'll apply to my first bill from them. Brought the purchase price including install, TPMS rebuild and warranty to around $720ish out the door. My invoice is at home so I'll have to look to get the exact dollar amount. A bit spendy but definitely helps to have that piece of mind once the weather finally does turn for the worse.
Not at all spendy all things considered. Probably about the same as your deductible. Check with your insurance carrier to see if they offer a winter safety equipment discount. Same with winter car control courses. Takes awhile but the wheels/tires will pay for themselves eventually. Nevermind the potential cost for an accident and/or tow.
What idget said. It's cheap insurance. I'd gladly pay for winter tires vs a deductible. Even a set of General Altimax Arctics, which can be had for like 600 installed, on your stock wheels plus the fee for a tire swap would be a good option compared to running summers or even all (read: no) season tires.
