Looking for some information on over sized wheels are to big. First I want state my stock wheels size on my legacy is a 14'' rim. I have went from the stock size 14'' to 17'' wheels my worry is that they are putting too much stress on my engine and trans. Being its an older car I want to ensure that this will not create an issue later on in years. Which is kind of obvious that it might but I just want to get other incite. Thanks
As long as the outside diameter of the tire is the same it shouldn't really have much effect on the stresses applied to your engine.
+1 Wheel diameter is about the least important statistic as far as putting load on the car. If you go with a significantly larger OD tire, that does put some extra strain on things. A wheel with significantly lower offset increases the scrub radius, and will be harder on steering components and bearings Weight can be a factor. So can wheel/tire width, mostly for the reasons I already mentioned. But, basically if it fits under the bodywork without major rubbing at stock height, it's probably fine.
Alright what about alignment I have been having and issue on that I have put used tires on my car and I'm getting and inside wear in the from the back is fine I've had three pairs of decent tires now and they have all worn out. I've had 2 or3 alignments since then one because I put new struts in, another because of rear lateral links. I did put 1in saggy but spacers Iin the rear but I have heard that shouldn't throw it off unless they are 2 inches or bigger. Or Could the used tires be the cause? That is also why I was wondering about the oversized wheels as well would to wear be different? Appreciate any help Thanks
If you are having unusual tire wear, then you really need to get that addressed first. Tires won't cause wear, and won't mess with the alignment. (much, not enough to fix your issues) Take it to The Alignment Guy. I am suspecting if you have had a couple of alignments and are still having tire wear issues, you have worn/broken parts that need to be fixed. He will be able to diagnose your issues, recommend repairs and give you a spot on alignment for a decent price. Inside wear is a good indicator of a toe alignment issue.
