So with the arrival of winter has also brought along the joy of finding new rock chips. I have two nasty ones that I think I need to have taken care of. One on the lip of my hood, the other at the top leading edge of my roof just above the windshield.

The one on the roof actually appears to have some oxidation going on which makes me want to get this taken care of even sooner. Is touching up these spots with a little bottle of touch up paint from the dealer the best/most cost effective way to go about it? Or is there any detail shops that can fix this for a reasonable price? And how does one take care of the rust forming in the little spot? Anything to worry about or will touching it up stop the rust right there?

I'd at least sand off the rust, other wise it will spred under the paint.(nasty looking blisters) I had that problem with my 300, looks really bad and even worse when the paint comes off.

they also make stuff that you can put on the rust that turns it back into metal. then paint over it.

Pretty hard to sand off something so small though with out sanding off actual paint around isn't it?

I got the same ding on my roof. I used POR15 first, then a little touch up paint. I took it to several body shops and they have to paint the whole roof to do it right. I just had a window blow out of the garage on to the hood so I guess I'll be getting them both painted at the same time  Later, Tim

If you have an STI, your hood should be aluminum and you should just dab some touchup paint on it, for the roof you can do what chef said and dab the spot with some por15 which converts the rust so it wont spread more, then put a bit of touchup over it.
