hey guys just lookin for a little input i what i would or should replace when i pull my ej22 and swap the block for the 2.5 (im doing the high comp frankenmotor). i not looking to break the bank or go crazy, just want to have a mostly leak free fun motor, im just wondering what i may be missing. here is my starting list i have made so far. Timing belt (ej22) headgaskets not 100% sure what im going with yet valve cover gaskets Exhaust/Intake manifold gaskets Oil Seals (camshaft) thermostat pcv valve upper lower rad hose head bolts (which to use 2.5 or 2.2?) rear main seal? rear main seal retainer Front crank Seal? oil pump? Fluids thats all i got for now, lmk if you think there are some other things i should be doing while i got it apart. thanks
I think that really sums it up. I would do the rear main seal, and the rear access plate since you have the motor out. Also why not do the front main seal and oil pump (a new OEM oil pump isnt too bad IIRC) You are going to need the washer/grommet things for when you do the valve cover gaskets. They are only like $.80 ea though. You will have to keep us posted on the progress. I am very interested in how this turns out ;-)
you'll want to use the STI head gasket pn# 11044aa642 or the dohc 5 layer 11o44aa610 and the head bolts for the 2.2 should work
^ any idea how well those gaskets match up with the 2.2 coolant passages? i was just lookin on nabisco again and saw this "use the new four layer OEM EJ25 head gasket" posted by Matt Monson who seams to be an authority on this swap configuration. btw i am using a phase 1 (98) 2.5 block so i hear the pistions clear the deck on these things. and yea you will probably be hearing from me once i get my whole list figured out.
