I would like some wisdom from some of the 15+ WRX and STi owners around here. Looks like in the next 6 months or so I'll be seriously looking at a new car and was hoping to get opinions on these as I have seen A LOT of used ones for sale already. THANKS!
I have not looked lately but I could not believe what used WRX/STI's were going for - it just made more sense to buy new. The WRX is one of the best bang for buck cars going I think with the combination of performance and all-wheel drive
Yeah for me if I was buying a current gen WRX/STI I would rather pay the 2-3k more and get new vs the 2015 models with 20-30k miles on them for almost the same as new but were probably beat the **** up.
I am considering buying a new one the next time I need a car. If I'm not mistaken I have seen it stated in more than one place where the WRX/STI holds its value better than any other car (I think it is safe to assume they were talking about cars that normal mortals buy).
That is probably true in comparison to other sporty cars but I have been eyeing 4runners as my next vehicle and those damn things might have WRX/STI beat.
I'll say this: My 2015 4Runner is the first vehicle I've ever owned that I've liked enough to actually want to keep for the full loan term. You won't regret buying one, and the depreciation curve on them is ridiculous. One of the major car mags had a really interesting article about vehicle depreciation and the 4Runners are worth 75% of what you paid new for one after 3 years. An FJ Cruiser is worth 98% of what you paid for one after 3 years. It may not be the fastest vehicle out there, but damned if it just doesn't do everything well.
Sorry I haven't replied lately! I was in Tennessee this past week for work. Thanks for the advice everyone, I've noticed that used WRX/STi's are nearly the same price used as new as well and I agree that it doesn't make sense to get a used one that has probably been driven hard for a short while then thrown away for something else. I've been leaning toward a new WRX but I still have no idea what I want or will want when it's time to start looking. Just wanted some opinions so thank you all!
If you plan to have a DD with around 300whp then the new wrx is the way to go. If anything more than 400whp then sti. I'm selling mine simply because I don't want to drop 5k on a turbo kit to make 450+. The wrx is still too new so the after market world still needs time to develope.
I bought new - but I looked at used STi's. When it comes to used STi's like with anything else just do your homework. Are there quality aftermarket parts vs ebay parts? If someone is willing to spend the money on good parts chances are they did it right with the tune and such. Have the dealership run a compression test prior to purchasing. Take reasonable steps to protect yourself and you may be able to land a taken care of WRX/STi with a lot of the mods you may end up doing yourself for a few grand less than new.
I was in the same boat 1.5 years ago and bought a new 2015 WRX Premium. I looked at used for a while but the prices of them justified just buying a new one. What other questions do you have? They're awesome cars, although I actually want to sell mine and get a truck or SUV right now. It's more practical for me to have a little bit of hauling power right now and I'm not putting a hitch on my car lol. I'd probably be more interested in keeping it if I had put some money into it but mine is completely stock. I'm too used to the hard pull and raw power of a sportbike to justify dumping a few thousand into this car.
Forester/Crosstrek. Don't you dare buy some ****ty SUV. I know where you live and I WILL come... say hi n' stuff. Maybe tell you not to do such a silly thing.
Well thank you for convincing me to buy an SUV Haha only if you misbehaved in a way that convinced me to also misbehave I was actually hoping for something like a 4Runner or a Tundra. So much more practical than the WRX right now
I would like a brand new car, but we will see what is possible when the time comes. I really have no idea what I want but I LOVED the legacies that I had and I would like to stick with subaru when I get a new car. I've been driving a 99 civic hatch for almost two years and it is not practical at all (aside from being cheap). It is nice that gas is a million times cheaper than the legacies were, but the novelty of how basic the car is has worn off!
