I went up to the Pyrotechnics Guild International convention back in early August. It was in Fargo ND this year. Here are a couple interesting pics i took. It is hard getting good shots of fireworks, and as such many of mine didnt turn out. Want some firecrackers? (each case holds 1 roll of 16,000 crackers) Lets make a giant cracker string out of them all (called the Super String, an annual tradition) Loading the Super String up to be brought out to the stadium. The honor of lighting this is sold every year at the auction. IIRC it was about $500 to light it this year. What is that thing? Oh. a 6" ball salute. One of the 21 gun salute for deceased members. almost knocks the wind out of you
^ yeah. pretty much the final public display on friday night is the BEST fireworks show you will ever see. roughly a 45 minute show that is perfectly synced to music. every year it just gets better and better.
Yeah, the PGI has been in West Fargo several times. Back when I was in college, I worked the front desk of a motel over there that would basically be booked solid for the entire week with PGI people. The super string is freaking awesome. My last year there, they lit off a 36" shell as the grand finale. I think that at the time, it was the largest shell to have ever been shot in either N. America (or possibly the world). It was probably the most insane single firework I've ever seen. It literally filled 3/4 of the entire horizon and set off every car alarm in like a 5 mile radius, lol.
the shows this year were awesome...I live right off 13th ave by the fairgrounds where it was held...I got some good pics maybe i'll post em.
^ cool. yeah this has to be atleast the 5th time it has been in Fargo. IIRC they started going to Fargo back in 98. My dad actualy got the entire final display and super string on film (digi cam) i will look at uploading it, but i think it will be about 1gb or more. since its a 45 minute show. WOTV: which hotel did you work at? the 36" shell was a shell of shells. so i think they stuck a bunch of 10" or 12" shells inside of it, which is why it filled up so much of the air.
