Ok, here goes. I need to check my piston to valve clearance. I am pretty handy and can do it myself if necessary, but I'd rather have someone that is more experienced with it give it a go. Fuji...do you have any of your old, used EJ22T headgaskets lying around? Or, if anyone here has changed EJ22E headgaskets lately, do you have both of them. I really can't afford a second set of cometics to use just to test clearance. I mean, I guess 90 bucks for the safety of the engine is well spent, but there has to be other ways. Someone with knowledge on this help me out. Is there any other way to test valve/piston clearance?
Can't you put a straightedge on the mating surfaces of the shortblock/head and measure the distance to the piston at TDC and the distance to the fully open valve with calipers?
Yup your right, but then your post didn't help at all either did it? Why don't you help him with you great building skills?
Although that could be done, it would not give you an accurate enough measurement when you are dealing with such small clearences. A few .010's can mean the death of a motor in short order.
lol...chill out ... removed ... . just playing ps- you still havent described these other ways of doing it.
lol. IBnoobsettingsbetyou10bucks right now i'm free of giving a **** about anything cause i'm so damn busy...so this is all fun and games. unlike the previous 2 years ......just so i dont hear the "gawd, you guys, shut up"
I tore apart my garage looking for some old gaskets and came up empty handed. I'm sure Jeremy has a set or four still in his garage. He'd prob send a set if asked nicely (he likes beer )
Not trying to create drama here but when I read this post I almost fell out of my chair
Oh, and I have a digital caliper accurate to .0005 you could you with a really good straight edge. Let me know, I'll be at firestone tonight.
