Im gonna take this girl out to this place that ive heard that you can just lay there and watch planes land and take off...problem is i have no idea where it is. Someone please help me out...it would be much appreciated!
Depends on which airport you're talking about. At MSP you can either go down the hill next to the river valley and sit watching the parallels either departing or incoming. I think it's part of Fort Snelling park. I think the limo parking is still there between Lindbergh and Humphrey near the approach end of 30L. I can't recall if that gold course is still there off of Cedar now with the new runway construction, that was a good place to go too. There are a few places to park where roads come to an end on that side of the highways surrounding the airport but expect to get hassled by the MAC police if you're there long. If you've got a scanner the tower freqs are 123.95 for 12R-30L (the southern parallel) and 126.70 for the other parallel and the cross (if they're actually using the cross which you could then watch from Fort Snelling proper). Or did you mean Anoka, Crystal, Flying Cloud, or St. Paul? Busiest of those are probably Flying Cloud, St. Paul, Crystal, then Anoka. A lot of light aircraft training at the latter two, some corporate jets coming and going from the former two.
For MSP Exit on Post Road and turn East. There are two good points, one down the hill torward Snelling State Park and the other toward the military building (don't recall the name)
Hardly, one clipped the other while taxiing because it was having hydraulic issues. From the photos it looks like the DC-9 that was having hydraulics issues lost its wheel brakes and rode right up underneath the tail of an A320. The media instantly touted it as "midair collision" then "aircraft collided while landing" then "aircraft collided on ground" and now finally just "aircraft bumped into each other while taxiing". Sent half dozen people to the hospital, probably flight attendants getting thrown hard when one or the other hit.
