I can get either installed for about the same price. What do you guys think? Any suggestions?

    They are both 6.5" speakers!

I don't know anything about the JLs, but I have the db650s in my car and I'm happy with them. When I was researching them they seemed to get good reviews.

Polk has been in the industry making smaller speakers like tweets and midrange WAYYYY longer than JLAudio. But this said, I've been running JLAudio subs for about 10 years with no regrets. The technology can easily be stolen between companies so I'd say it's a crap shoot. I like the JL brand and it's foundation so I vote for JL.

You won't be disappointed with either decision.

I can't wait to put the DLS up6 in!
They are 3-4x the price of the speakers he is looking at tho.

I don't think everyone wants to drive to Iowa to have component speakers installed:laugh:

Why would you need to drive there to have them install them?

Are they going to drive to my house and install them?

The OP said he can get both for the same price *installed*. So that leads me to believe he doesn't want to install them himself.

Besides that. I'm not a big fan of ED at all. Not to take away from Ray's ride. Would love to hear it.

sorry matt if you had a bad experience with them...I personally would recommend them in a heart beat. Considering what they had to overcome and schedule that was insane...They are very professional and handled everything with care...I think their drivers and builds are awesome as well...

There are plenty of people here who can install, but that's fine, I see what you're saying.

And as for eD products, DLS is not their product, they just sell it and happen to have some good pricing on them.

The Polks work fine for me. But I really don't listen to the stereo very much.

I'll give a nod to Alpine Type-R for budget(sub $100) or Alpine Type-X or Pioneer PRS(~$200) if you have a few extra dollars.

I can't say I've heard much good about Polks for a while, but I have never actually heard a set. JL should fair better though, but I know some consider their tweeters to be slightly harsh. I've always stayed away from JL simple because they're god awful expensive. There's just better bang for the buck out there.

    Some initial questions:
#1 - Have you actually listened to these speakers? How did you like them? What sounded good, what didn't? What other speaker sets have you demoed, liked, disliked?

#2 - What kind of sound are you shooting for?
    Tonality: warm, neutral, bright
    Level of detail: smooth/rich, crisp/sharp
Specific characteristics: strong midbass punch, emphaisis on vocals, sharp highs, smooth highs, etc.

If we know the type of sound you're trying to get, we can better point you to a "best fit" speaker.

I almost bought a DLS UR6S set, but ended up with the then discontinued(but currently recontinued) stock of Phoenix Gold's Ti Elite Comp6 set. It didn't really matter. Both sets are Morel based, so I ended up with a somewhat similar end product, lol. They had a nice, lively, upbeat, and highly detailed but at the same time smooth and non-fatiguing sound. They just weren't quite my taste. I have since toyed with other options. The woofers were also quite power hungry if you wanted any serious output from them, 150w-200w rms minimum hungry. They had good sensitivity at 90dB, but they really needed juice to move a lot, effortlessly. Even then, you're limited by their somewhat low excursion.

My bro has ED's EDi 6500s as well as their EU-700 mini subs. The 6500 set has a decent woofer(some Vifa based model) but the tweeter is kind of crappy, doesn't play very low and frequency response isn't all that flat. It's mearly ok but offers a lot of detail and provides some added sparkle and bite to music. It could definitely stand an upgrade to some other 4 ohm tweeter, something with a sensitivity around 90dB. The EU-700s are nice, little beasts. I have yet to hear them in a "good" install though. He had them in the rear doors of his Protege 5, and they rattled like crazy, that and they were being powered by a cheapy Boss amp that could only do half rms wattage. I'd like to hear them in a good, ported enclosure before I pass judgement on them. They're little monsters but not of much use above 500Hz.

Check out my underseat eu700 (fed by 400 watts off a 9.2) sometime. Sounds pretty damn decent for how tiny the box (and speaker) is. Really impressed by those little suckers. And its held up to the power too lol

Speakers are too easy to install, I'd do it myself or ask somebody on here. Both brands sound pretty good but I've always been a Polk guy even though I rock the JL sub.
