Well they are looking at selling hood supports that will allow you to not need the support bar to hold your hood up. It will make working in the engine bay a lot easier and they look pretty cool. So let justin at GrimmSpeed know what you think. Bill View attachment 3415 View attachment 3416 View attachment 3423 View attachment 3418 View attachment 3419
Wow...:eek3: Those look really nice!! I would take a set when I have the extra dough! Hawt. Cost?? And I would take them WITH the logos!! Lookin' good Bill!!
How would these be any different that any of the other offerings that can be had for about $100.00? Are they rust resistant, I know a lot of people with the tien lifts complain that they rust, so some people run the stainless lifts, are these really any different/less expensive? I might be interested if they were around 50-60 and could withstand the salt!
^^ I like the idea, but do you expect a better part for less? It would be nice. In talking with Justin, he does not have a set price for them yet, but he would like to see if he can make them and sell them for less then the tien ones.
- Opens the hood higher - Better access to the engine bay - NO interference from the stock prop while working in the engine bay - NO drilling nor rivetting required (uses OEM bolts / location.) - Hood is only assisted when hood is opened past 45 deg. - Uses quality lifters (w/ chrome shafts) - Hardware is corrosion resistant - Designed for both high and low temp. environments - Installs in 20 minutes or less (using simple hand tools) if we sell these we're definitely going to shoot for the lowest price possible. tein sells theres for 145 which i think is ridiculous. we'll probably be in th 60-80 range if we go ahead. i've personally ALWAYS wanted these on my car but never wanted to fork over the 100+ for the teins.
Thanks for posting up the info I did not know. Scuba Steve liked them when he saw them today when we put my new struts in.
So if I come down to "Club Grimm" in St. Paul, you could do the install quick for a few extra $$$$$!? Lmk when/if this does go Justin, I'm in 100%!
I hope you don't need the help, seriously you remove one bolt and put another one in. it took us like 10 min in the FS parking lot on friday.. But if you do let me know I will help you out.
lol...we can definitely do that. and anyone please speak up if you have any input on design, concerns, etc. i see that rust is an issue so i'll make sure to look into that.
hahaha...probably don't NEED the help! But if I go down to Grimmspeed headquarters to pick them up, why not slap them on quick with "the man" himself!?
I actually had found a couple of places where teins could be had for 100 shipped, but the word of mouth on that product is not good, even people not in the rust belt were complaining. The stainless versions can be had for about 120 a pair shipped, but I really dont want any more shiny crap under my hood. If you have a fairly rust resistant product that is in the 60-80 range count me in! I just don't want crome or funky colors!
Heck yeah!!!!! As Bill mentioned, I seen those on his car today and loved them...very nice and clean looking connecting points.... very good idea Justin... They are much better than the cheezy rod Subaru give you to prop the hood.
Any timeline on these? Iv'e noticed some money burning a hole in my wallet lately and something like this may be just enough to tame the flames for a little bit.
i'll chat with the manufacturere about doing gc dampers. no time line yet. we are just in the testing phase right now.
from the maker regarding my question about rust... the brackets are aluminum the swivels are zinc coated with rubber dust boot and oiled ball and sockets. the body is painted and guranteed from manufacturer (corrosion resistant) all hardware is stainless.
well, I'd be interested if they would work on my loyale. and it's quite possible that my dad would be interested for his '94 legacy, or mom's '01 legacy too....
is the gc distance the same as the 03 wrx? If so, I can check right now...or compare it brand new ones as well. <~~~~Subaru salesman also. Just let me know what you need me too measure.
Ok, when you ask fender bolts I'm presuming you mean the three bolts along the runner holding the fender on? I measured mine and the distance between the one closest to the windshield and the middle bolt is 18.5" on the money. There is also a hole which looks like the same on you are using on the hood but it is not threaded.
if you want to measure a GC i will beat firestone on friday. couple concerns for GCs dampers are that the hoods are steel not aluminum. so a stronger strut may be needed. also is there a quick release, for easy removal. i put my hood all the way up with the hood prop in the alternate location a fair amount. i don think the dampers go that high, so is there some type of quick disconnect to raise the hood higher?
great points, the loyale and gen1 leggy both have steel hoods too...I assume the 01 does aswel. AND, I too like to have the hood way open.... tell me where to measure, and I'll go measure the loyale.
I believe the struts extended far enough to prop the hood nearly upright. don't quote me on that, but I believe I saw them do that at FS the other night.
^ That would be a plus, then i only have to worry about leaning on them when the hood is open and breaking them lol.
