Hey everyone, just checking out the MN Subaru scene.. I don't currently own one, but I'm on the fence about getting one. Just looking for advice, ideas, and things of that nature. I currently own a 2000 S2000 and a 2004 TSX. Looking forward to my stay here!

Buy an '06+ WRX wagon, make it stage 2, and call it a day. You'll love it, especially living in MN. Welcome!

From your previous line of cars, I'm sure you'll be more happy with an 07 and up legacy with cobb stage I.

Haha, I hear ya, no worries.. I'm no rook :)

That's some great advice.. I will take that into strong consideration!

Tbh, I was really looking into WRXs and/or STIs, but why would you suggest Legacy?

Depends on what you like about the WRX and the STI. Legacy (gt) trades a little of the raw performance for a lot more refinement (though not on par with an s2000 or TSX IMO). The 07+ legacy spec b's take you close enough to an STi performance-wise that you won't notice the difference most of the time, particularly given some minor tweaks/tuning. The non-spec b is still a good time, but you'll notice the absent bits. It just depends on what kind of experience you're after. I love the STI and the LGT for different reasons.

I personally encounter more of the things I like about the LGT during daily driving than I do with the things I like about the STI. For instance, I'm not super worried about "tossability" on my ride to work... ;)

Anyway, it's worth trying both and seeing what you like. If you find yourself missing some of the polish that you get in a TSX or s2000, then it could hit the sweet spot. If you're after something a bit more uncompromising, the STi is your huckleberry.

Simple, its not a cop chaser car. You drive any WRX/STI and a cop looks at you right away and associate you with everyone else.

Its a more define car that still has plenty of power if you need it. Nice and humble ride.

What they said! If I did it all over again I would go straight to the legacy gt first. Or maybe a 2011 wrx.

I like our 08 legacy gt muuuuuuch more as a daily driver compared to my old 07 sti and 06 wrx. It also flies way under the radar likeKong mentioned.

The gf had an 06 rsx before the lgt and to my surprise, she likes the interior better on the Subaru. Most of that is probably due to the lack of heated seats in her rsx, but the leather is a bit softer on the legacy compared to the acura and the controls are more versatile and ergonomic (dual climate controls, easy to reach buttons, steering wheel controls, etc...). We had the same winter tires on both the acura and the legacy (blizzak revo-1) and although the rsx did well in the winter, it's no comparison to the legacy with the slightly higher ride height and awd.

I can definitely tell the weight difference and the suspension stiffness between the lgt and the sti (and even the wrx), but none of them are track cars stock and none of them will change directions nearly as well as your s2k. Surprisingly, even our bone stock slushbox lgt can get out of it's own way just fine and we haven't seen the need to modify it beyond adding summer wheels and tires in our 3 years of having it... which is quite an accomplishment for me lol

Anyway are you looking to add a Subaru or replace one of your cars with one? How do you plan to use it? Good luck with your purchase and have fun test driving potential new cars.

    idget, probably said it best.

I had the chance to buy an 08 STI or an 07 Outback XT. I went the XT route. I'm getting to old for cops to be harrassing me now a days.

Thanks for your input, I understand where you're coming from, same reason I picked up a TSX for a dd versus a Civic.

Yeah, the TSX really isn't bad in the winter either. However, an AWD car just seems way more practical.

I'm not sure yet.. I definitely don't need three cars :p but it'll come down to what I find and the price tag.

    LOL, I hear ya.

A Legacy GT limited would be a pretty fair trade for a TSX. A WRX or STI is going to be a different beast all together. If you were planning on replacing the s2k, first I'd tell you I think you're f'n nuts for replacing it with a Subaru, then I'd recommend the STI.

I don't know that I'd call AWD more practical when not in the middle of justifying something to my wife, but it is certainly a lot of fun in winter...
