Is it just me or does the price spread between a gallon of 87 octane and 92 octane seem to be growing? When I filled up this morning at my local mobil station the difference was 48 cents. Didn't it used to be about a quarter? Why is this?
I stopped going to a couple of gas stations because of the price spread. I felt like I was being gouged. It seems like a new trend. Anyway, I've escaped to e85 for now.
no one drives cars really anymore (most people use bikes or ride the bus) so gas prices are going up since it's seen as an antique get with the times
You are in Andover, hit up your local Bills Superette. There mark up is only .10 per grade. I paid $3.65 for 92 last night. There 87 was $3.45. I switched my last tune from 93 to 92 becuase of this. BP's mark up on 93 is crazy, one station was .80 more!! The lowest i saw was .50 mark up from 87
Not all BPs. I pumped the other day and it was only 20cents higher than regular. That was in Cottage Grove though. I think it is up to the person/group that owns the station more than anything.
Because they can. Advertise lowest price to get you to the pump, then bend you over and... well, you know the rest.
It really varies by brand and location. I was just up on the North Shore this weekend and bought gas in Superior on the way up...$1.00 more for 91! Then on the way home I stopped in Barnum and it was again $1 higher! Filled up in Savage this morning at Kwik Trip and paid $0.30 more for the 91. The BPs I usually go to in Burnsville are $0.40 higher. There is also one BP in B'ville that was $0.55 last time I checked. Grrr. Too many of the new 'high mileage' cars are requiring premium. So, they are either taking advantage of that or there are supply issues as a result. My bet is on the former (the delta actually started to increase the same time we started seeing $4.00 prices). Fortunately, Kwik Trip gas is actually recommended for my RS5; so I can now go with the cheapest alternative.
Yeah I've noticed that too. I usually see a 30 cent spread between regular and premium, but it has grown of late...or else I was missing it before. I have never seen a $1 difference though.
BP is currently the only station that carries 93. The price for premium at BP's is normally as little as $.25 more than regular 87 or to $.40 or more per gallon. BP started a driver's reward program though - every 8 gallons purchased gives you $.05 off per gallon. There is a large variability in E-85 pricing too, but the best I've seen is about $1 cheaper per gallon under premium.
it varies throughout the city and what station you go to. I usually hit up the ez stops around my house for 91. its pretty cheap usually and 10-20 cent more than 87
