Hello Everyone, Today I drove into work, 4miles down the road from my house and noticed that my temp was running high. I get to work and open up the hood and coolant is all over the engine. It seems like the coolant came from the res tank and was boiling all over into the engine. This problem has happened this past summer a couple of times. What they did to fix this problem was test the system and refill. A couple months later same thing would happen. This past Dec 06, I had to have my engine replace. The whole engine is brand new. WIth the new engine I got a new temp gage. So I called the place that redid my engine and informed them of what was going on and they told me howto refill it. I refilled the engine with coolant and let it run awhile and then drove it in the parking lot of where I work. Same thing happened, coolant leaked over and the system is dry. So with that I just had the car towed for the shop to take a look at it. Q: My question is has anyone had this problem with there WRX or Does anything think they might know what might be the problem.
I got the waterpump replaced when my engine was replaced. So I mean it could be that but I do not think so.
Engines don't overheat for no reason, especially in this weather. You could have a blockage in your radiator, the fans might not be coming on, the thermostat might be malfunctioning, there could be something wrong with the block, your ecu might be fragged. Did you get a new engine or was the old one rebuilt? Do your fans come on? You should take the car to a good shop (i.e. not the one you went to previously) and have it looked at by professionals that deal in Subies.
im sure you had your thermal stat replace too when you had your water pump replace?....If that's not the case go KOYO!...jk..but yeah my RS radiator couldn't handle with the EJ20's heat so it gave out and i replace it with a Koyo couple of days ago....
yup I would too....I had similar issues with mine. We replaced the thermostat and it continued to over heat so they replaced the heads presuming that I had cracked heads (OLD EJ25) I replaced the thermostat again...no overheat. Seems I had a dud thermostat.
even if it isn't, the thermostat it typically the weakest link and by replacing this then you KNOW that this not the issue. The other issue I had was the lower radiator hose was contracted and heavily restricted water flow.
It's also one of the cheapest fixes. Don't wanna buy a new pump or radiator and find out it was really just the thermo, unless you really wanted the new radiator in the first place.
Welll I have not heard back from the shop today. So hopefully they will get back to me this afternoon and I will post an update. Thank you all for your input and I see that this similar problem has happened to a couple of you.
