dear lord that's awesome!!!! I need one of those boards for wiring harnesses :yumyum:

I'd seen pictures of a prodrive plant tour in like 2000, but so much more detail here. I've always loved the way they brace the strut towers, but thought it just ended at the firewall. pretty sweet to see it's an entire X-brace through the firewall and into the cage behind.

The fabrication is nice, but I'm VERY impressed with their use of the CMM to check their own work. CMM stands for coordinate measuring machine, for the n00bs, accurate to at least .001, if not tighter.

It is pretty amazing that the RS-RA 2.0L of 15 years ago is still the basis for the WRC engine.

They only use 4 bolt wheels? Why?

it's strong enough....and a fifth is just extra time to swap them.

FYI. since '04 (IIRC) they've used 4x140mm wheel patterns. that's right, the exact same pattern used on EA-series subarus.

So I see WRC cars have the tailpipe on the right instead of the left side, is this a WRC only thing or do some stock cars come with that over seas?

I'm kinda bummed that some of the geeks I know on here haven't chimed in at all :(

Like this. The switches that are breakers for everything. $65 each. And the lightweight wire from Raychem for $365 a roll.

Also, the stitched suede boots for the steering rack. Who would have thought that suede is the toughest thing for the job?

    Good 'ol 20g block.

    The heat-shrink covered lateral links.

This picture is simply pure sex, straight and simple.

Also, I see 2 if not three knock sensors in this picture, among other sensors that I am still scratching my head about. The head castings look like the 25D heads i have sitting on my workbench. The OEM looking waterpump. And the fact that the timing belt says SUBARU on it.

No problem. I just figured plenty of people would be interested in what is involved in a top-level motorsport. There is no wonder that those cars cost over $1M to build. Maintaining them is another story, lol.

unh Widebody hawkeyes make my pants tight! That's a metric ass-ton of camber in the rear too.

Yeah it's really amazing and eye-opening to see the amount of detail that goes into any sport at its highest levels.

I wonder if they have a weight auditor "500g over! use 3 less welds per panel and eliminate 15 zipties, now!"

probably, they tell codrivers to slim down if they get a little heavy.
