Was just curious if there is a DIY'er for this or would I have to go to a stealership to have it programmed? I'm looking to purchase two off of ebay to have cut and programmed to my forester just in case something happens.

If I have to go to the stealership, anyone know what they usually charge?

If you have the right Programming tool, you can do it yourself.

But Dealer is the easiest way. But You'll need all the keys to get programmed. Not just the two new ones.

So the original key I got with the car needs to be reprogrammed?

searched some more and it does sound like what kongzilla stated. That sucks. I'll call around to see what's the cheapest out there to have all three keys programmed before going to the stealership. But til then, if anyone has any info on pricing around Saint Paul area, post up. Thanks

Anyone know how a new fob costs? If you just replace the battery in the fob is there a need to reprogram? Sorry didn't mean to hijack...

You do not need to reprogram if you just replace the battery.

What car is it for first of all. Second, you don't need to do all the keys, just the new ones. You need to make sure the keys you are buying are not only blanks, but have never been programmed before. I just went through this last week while trying to reprogram a legacy key

Other forums were quoted and charged $100 to have the key programmed.

I was actually looking into doing that for my regular key once I get two more programmed. Just curious as to what you'd charge for this? Would I have to include a blank flip key fob for you? Lmk lol

This is for my 06FXT. These are the ones I'm looking at buying and having programmed to my car. States it is compatable with my forester.
