Hello folks, I am going to be doing a bit of upgrading to my daily driver 05 WRX 2.0L this winter. I just bought my AP today and now am trying to figure out where to go with my exaust so I know what I have to save up. Basicly i can't really decide on what TBE exaust to go with.
Basicly my requirements are I want to go with a 2.5" exaust (Catless prefered but open to suggestions) since im only going to a stage 2 and I don't really think 3" is nessesary. The other is sound. I want a fairly quiet exaust while driving down the freeway (turning up the radio is not really an option). Don't care about sound when getting on it. Any recomendations from folks would be much apreciated. Would not mind meeting to actually hear some exausts as well. Thanks Much

welcome to the club!!! You may want to stop by Firestone a Friday night as there are a few cars down there with exhaust systems you can listen to.

    Here's sme popular ones

Cobb TBE- even though it's 3" it's very quiet

Subaru SPT- A bit more raspy and louder when compared to Cobb, but still somewhat quiet

Prodrive- Raspy but somewhat quiet and I think it's 2.5 inch

you would probably really like one of Nathans setups. He made some 2.5" TBE setups that sounded just like what you want IIRC. perhaps you will find someone selling one of them.

Dave your Cobb exhaust is FNA loud when I'm behind you but for a nice idle and overall sound those three are really nice. I love my Invidia DP and SPT CB.

Chet, Cobb is only loud at WOT and it wasn't very loud even at WOT when i was stage 2, but seems it's a buit louder with the 16g. i guess because more air.

It's just as loud as the SPT. We need a decibel meter. I just did mine at school Wednesday it read 107db at max I think.

Sure Chet, you're the expert. I can't argue with that....Yes, cobb and SPT are close, but the cobb seems quieter.

Back to topic. If you can't make it to firestone might want to try youtube....

here's a couple sample videos of exhaust systems

Great, appreciate the feedback. I will need to keep an open mind about a 3" Cobb pipe. Just want to make sure that the pipe also looks stock.

for warranty purposes? If so, you may want to investigate the SPT option.
I can't remember for sure, but I thought a simple catback wouldn't void the warranty, provided it's SPT. I could be wrong....

Either way good luck and have fun with the new set-up!!!!!

Depends on when you are looking to buy etc etc...

I am in the process of having drawings etc made up to build a workshop at my house.. a little 1 lift 15ft x 30ft work space so I can get back into this stuff...

Take a look at some of the MadDad stuff over at www.daddyssccp.com. Their Whisper catback, while at 3", is an outstanding exhaust. They also offer a variety of downpipes that mate with it.

SPT is nice and throaty under WOT but isn't two bad just cruising around town... All 3" piping though...

Dont care about the warentee. 44.5k miles so my warentee is up. For this winter I am doing an Turbo back, uppipe, and some other random stuff. The main reason I am concerned about noise so much is I had 3" exaust on my old truck and it was to loud while cruising. I couldnt hold a conversation while doing 70 on the freeway so I dont want to make that mistake again.

Oh I sooo understand that. I used to have the Apexi exhaust, which would scare everyone in the neighborhood. the rumble was very sexy, but way too loud. that's exactly why I swapped with another member on here for the Cobb. Nice rumble, not loud, and highway speeds you can't barely hear the exhaust.

I have a dual tip bosal...imo its too loud on the highway....after 6 hours in the car going to kansas I wanted to put my stock exhaust back on. I am fully catlett and the exhaust has no resonator.

I kind of miss my greddy evo2...in my opinion the SPT sounds the best of them all.

For the most part, a downpipe is a downpipe. It's the catback part that sets the sound for the car. I run the SPT on my car, and it's nice and quiet inside. But at the same time, when you get on it you can hear it.
