So instead of buying an 800 dollar head unit I bought an 800 dollar scooter!

Got it as an non running machine pretty much. The guy that sold it to me thought the scoot was shot and had something wrong with the wiring because it would not start. Well, it took me 15 minutes to figure out the problem and be on my way home with a little toy. The problem was that the gunk in the carb would not let the bike suck in the fuel. I opened up the drain valve and in 5 minutes the thing was running like new.
The Zuma has only 2k on it and is a 01 model.
So far I have cleaned the carb on it and tuned it a little better. Changed all the fluids( there was noting in the transmission) and started on the paint.

So here is my plan for this little toy.

Ordered a stage 2 performance kit for it. Which includes a: Tuned pipe, bigger carb, 70cc cylinder and piston, new vatiator, straight cut gears and some other misc stuff.
With all the upgrades it will hopefully top out at 55-60 with all the right tuning. And the acceleration should be no worse than a subbie has.;)

The paint will be flat black hence the name “stealth fighter”

    Here are a few pics.

welcome to working on scooters, where all the good parts are in Europe. If you want anything really specialized you are probably going to be ordering it from Europe, there is a model of MBK there that is mechanically identical to a zuma that is extremely popular.

a ruckus is great if performance is the last thing on your list, not to mention don't try leaving anything i one of them either. they are unbearably slow and 4 stroke 50s are leisurely.

Race you on my mini bike ;)

There are some painfully fast Zoomers (JDM Rukus) here. They sell a gambit of after market parts for those things, and I have seen an extended swing arm 125cc doing wheelies down the road.

actually I did fix it right in his driveway. He was very surprised. And the funny thing was that he was working on his bike. He appretly restores moto guzzy bikes, but could not figure out the problem with the scoot.

wakaba, is there anyway you could get me a rear tail light for this thing? The one they put on the US models is ugly as hell, its got a place for the jdm one but the plastic is not even cut out.

I live in a city and go downtown every day. Its a lot better than riding a motorcycle for those purposes. A good (not crap) scooter is faster than a sports car and more fun in the summer time.

I also don't need to do more than 80sih on it, so why pay for something that does stuff i don't need, is less comfortable and is more expensive to work on, that i can't get away with parking at bike racks in?

I see how it could work for you, BUT! I'll still never quite understand.

and what sports cars are we talking about? maybe in a straight line, scooters handle like shopping carts!

Well, the thing is that i would buy a motorcycle to be honest. But, there is no way i can get a nice motorcycle for 800 or even 2k. Its just not possible. And all i could afford was around 1500 max and thats pushing. I test drove a bike prior to buying this scoot. The bike was a 94 suzuki gs500. It was rubbish. it had rust everywhere. And i really dont need a motorcycle if i need to go long distances i have a car that can get me anywhere pretty quickly;). And the zuma will be a great project that i think will be a lot of fun when it is done. Its going to be fast and will handle like a bicycle.

Have you ever ridden on one? Just wonder?

I have seen cra racers take turns on scooters as well on a crotch rocket.

not all scooters are junky retro chinese knock off crap.

its not like most of the people on this forum care what their cars handle like, most of them are more fun in a straight line too. I'll still never quite understand why people buy literbikes that have enough power to put them into a tree at 180mph.

I have two friends so far that have died on crotch rockets and I don't dig harleys.

Thats not true about bad handling. if tuned right they handle great. My gilera handled great with the gas tank between the legs the center of the gravity was pretty low.

Having had a Olds Delta 88 drive over the top of me on my motorcycle on I-10 just before the Mobile Bay tunnel cured me of driving on a road on anything with two wheels.

That being said my buddy has a late 60's Italian scooter that he says screams. He started it up for me and man was it loud. Cool looking but not for me. Good luck and drive safe with your head on a swivel.

There'll be pit bike races again this year up at BIR on the go-kart track. That's real racing! Full leathers, gloves, helmet and boots. Everyone should come watch. :)

Scooters are FTW right now. Just look at Zuma prices. It's nuts.

Nice find Taras. You lucked out that's for sure. Go work on those rear brake slides!
