Alright I dont know how this will fly, but lets give it a whirl. I am planning to go Prokarting at the Maple Grove site on October 6 and 13 at 7pm and if there are reservations I will be there afterwards. If anyone is interested feel free to join me. If we get enough drivers, to make it interesting I would like to start a pool of $5 from each driver and a prize for 1, 2, 3 fastest times and most consistant driver. So basically its a time attack event. If you like Karting and have been to the Maple Grove site and have ran the course on the in/out door, you would probably agree this is one of the best places to get some speed bugs out of your system. With the summer coming to an end I will be trying to take advantage of the last few nice days and get as many full course days as possible. Game-Best out of two heats. To make it fair and consistant, the fastest will have to switch with the slowest karts and the same goes throughout the rest of the line. Hoping to keep it very simple and alot of fun. If more than 10 drivers than we'll split the group into two. And on the following week there will be a fast group and a slower group. Fastest: 1st 50% 2nd 20% 3rd 10% Most Consistant 20% http://www.prokartindoor.com/mapletrack.htm Location: (763) 428-1333 11700 Troy Ln N Maple Grove, MN 55369-9279 Arrive-and-Drive Daily Racing Rates Non-Member Rates $18.00 per race (8 minute session), $34.00 for two 8-minute sessions $45.00 for three 8-minute sessions $11.50 per race (5 minute session) $2.00 for a balaclava (required if using a ProKart helmet)
That sounds like fun. Count me in. I'll give 'er a whirl on the 6th, and if I'm hooked, I may be back the 13th too. What are we doing for scoring? Fastest single lap or most laps in 5/8 minutes? How many sessions? (just curious on estimated cost)
I'll shoot for fastest lap, but I'm not sure if I could be consistant without being decently familar with the track and had a good number of laps under my belt. How fast are these things? Can they easily overdrive the track or is it like kiddie go-karts where you just just peg the throttle all the time? Are we able to spin out relatively easily? Is there a concern of overheating tires? ....just curious, lol. What's a normal lap time? ...just revisited the website, still go-kart level.
it's very easy to overdrive the karts. especially if your tires are still cold. not sure there's really any concern on OVERheating the tires, but you definately have to be careful the first lap or 2 while they're still cold.
on karts consistency is more improtant than fast laps, especially if everone starts together. What usually happens is that with a bunch of guys who don't race together regularly the person in front can really break away since the guys behind tend to fight each other and cumulatively slow each other down. if you are doing it by lap times it would be better to space everyone out. Also kart variance comes more into play if you are using fastest lap single lap time.
Esperunit- Why did you have to give it away. LOL I was hoping to win it all to myself. JK. Actually you are exactly right. But I wanted the drivers to figure that part out for them selves. And because this is a TIME ATTACK event you can walk away with two prizes. Lets keep it interesting here. Will you be joining US?
well, i have a 30th birthday party tomorrow night starting at 8ish so might not be able to do tomorrow. I am also critically low on funds so event hough i'm a prokart savage member i'm not sure if that will carry over to the other location. I also have a fall run with teh mini club on sat the the suby club on sun, plus a bachelor party sat night. this weekend may break me... I'd really lke to do it, but we'll see. i'll make up my mind tonight.
Well, for the two of us that showed up, it was great fun. I'll be back next Friday, probably with a few friends.
Don't know. I'll be there again this friday with a few friends. I'm hoping for a decent amount of MNSubaru representation there.
Ok the weather was perfect for this event. Back Road Runner and I ran two sessions together. One with a bunch of girls. I even managed to bump into the Home Coming Queen a few times. On my first session the kart had massive understeer going into the off camber corner, causing me to lose a lot of time, they kids giving chase finally managed to catch me after 4 laps going in. My best time for that session was a 42 sec and consistant 43sec. Second session I managed to get 40.90 sec just shy of the best lap of the day 40.166 sec. There were alot of traffic in the last two session, next time I will see if I can run alone. And the third session was with the HC Queen group. Because the weather on Friday will be much colder and the low is below freezing, I will not be going out there this Friday but rather Tonight along with my coupon's for a buy one get one free! LOL Session 1 42.83 BL 43 consistant Session 2 41.38 BL 41.6 consistant Session 3 40.166 BL 42. consistant ========= Best lap of the day 40.166 Track Record 39.6
We are usually there every tuesday. I couldn't make it out of the shop on friday, worked on the stealth instead.
