    weaksause.

I built a Large Hadron Collider in my backyard when I was a kid.

CERN is cool, but us Americans are retards. Back in the '80s, Congress shot down a bill that would have built a machine called a "supercolliding supercollider" (lol) in Texas that would have dwarfed what is currently being built in Europe.

    Big American style car ?
    Big American style fridge ?
Yep, it's a shame there's no Big American style supercollider. There's probably no quick cash to be made from it.

Fact 43) Particle accelerators are used to dry the paint on soft drinks cans.

There's your practicle application, now where's my supercolliding supercollider?

The LHD is about 27km in circumference and is expected to create energies of 7 Tev, the superconducting supercollider was supposed to be 87 km in circumference and generate 20 TeV.

How big is this thing in comparision to the one at fermi lab by chicago? I have been to that one before.

It's waaaaaay bigger than the Chicago one. There's no reason to build a smaller one as it would be a waste of money.

I remember reading somewhere that the CERN collider is so large that the gravity from the moon will shift the earth's crust enough to where they can actually measure the distortion of the tunnel. lol.

Fermilab's Tevatron is 6.3km around and accelerates protons up to 1 TeV.

"A nominal proton beam in the LHC will have an energy equivalent to a person in a Subaru driving at 1700 kph."

Obviously you'd need a FM and a TBE and a tune.....but exactly how big would the turbo have to be?
