This question is primarily directed at Russ(WRX1) as I believe you are the one who has the upgraded 4EAT. I finally got some money saved up from working and what not, about a grand but will be more by the time I do this, and got some questions about the ProTorque TC and Tranny cooler. I have read and understand that the TC Mod is the best thing I can do so I am gonna do it, make my Accessport really breathe but then I think about a tranny cooler. What are your suggestions for that? I got really no clue what to look for. I am just looking for something that is for daily use and possible track use this summer. A specific name and model would be awsome if you could do that. Money is not really gonna be a problem for me as I will spend anything to my baby sing for that much longer cause I plan on keeping this car until the engine dies or my tranny dies, whichever comes first. So if anyone has any in put or any info at all that would be great.

I am using the largest b&m cooler they make, it is for the 48,000lbs vehicle. I don't drive mine car in the winter, so I completly bepass the stock cooler (warmer in the winter) that goes through the radiator. I know alot of the chicago guys are using the hayden coolers. Basically, if you plan on tracking the car, you want to get the biggest cooler you can stuff into it. Look through summit, jegs and looks at what they have for tranny coolers. I think my b&m cooler was about $45 or so.

Alright, thanks for the info. What is the best location for mounting it? I have herd around the radiator is best but I dont know where around it. Dont wanna be blocking that from the cooling it needs. If I took it to any regular place would they be able to plumb it the way I need it cause I drive my car year round and need it to be able to run year round

Just worry about getting the tc, and get that installed. I can help ya with the cooler. It is a pretty easy install. Just look in summit and Jegs for tranny coolers. Just let me know if you have any other questions.

Thank you very much. I am prolly gonna go with a hayden but I am seeing a pretty cool B&M that has a design where it does not allow oil to flow through the cooler entirely until it is up to temperature, basically a builtin gauge. I am thinking of getting that but maybe I should just get a hayden 403 or 5 and get a gauge

Is that TC still floating around that you mention earlier Russ. I remember faintly you mentioning that there was a group one floating around and I am curious to know if it still is or if anyone has one that I could send out and get fixed up by Protorque then once installed give them mine back or just pass mine on to the next person.

Actually, no. It ended being a jdm tc, and didn't work out. It was a HUGE mess. I have a vb sitting here, but no tc. Sorry.

OK...I have also read that there is a VB mod that a person can do. What does that mod do for your car?

The vb mod will increase line pressure (helps hold the clutches together), increase shift firmness, and increase shift speed. It will all help reduce tranny temp and help hold the extra hp. Basically if you are upgrading the turbo, you should also consider a vb upgrade.

Well the TC came in. Where can I get it installed? Should I wait until I get my tranny cooler or should I go ahead and do it since it is winter?

It will be ok to do now. I had my tc in for a month or so before I installed the cooler. It is pretty cold outside so you shouldn't have any problems (unless you start doing tons of brake launches). I had Todd do my tc install. You can give him a call and see what he will charge to do it.

Oh ya, I will help ya with the cooler install. It is real simple and there is no need to pay anyone to do it.

Sweet...I will look for his number somewhere around here cause I know its been posted multiple times. I have read that the tranny cooler is quite simple as it is only extending and changing a couple of lines. What type of synthetic fluid do you use?

Alright. I looked for todds number around here but can't find it. His e-mail response is a little slow so I might as well call him cause I would love for him to do the install over my spring break. So could someone please hook me up with his number so that I might be able to call him.

Well I am getting my install day set up with todd and getting everything finalized. One last question for those who know where a lot of car shops are. Where can I pick up some synthetic fluid for my tranny? I live in wayzata and to say the least there isn't too many car shops. So where can I go to buy some? Secondly, how much do I need to buy for a TC install?

I can get ya some amsoil at wholesale, but I live in St. Paul, so that would be like driving to the other side of the world for you. I think the amsoil atf is around $76 a case, and it take 10-11 quarts to do the tc mod.

No, I think I have a couple of bottles that have been sitting for a couple of years. As long as they stay sealed, they will be fine. I think I will have some time Sat or Sunday morning to go pick it up, so just give me a call.
