Well this year went better then last, and we would like to see the trend continue. For those that attended our event please provide us with constructive criticism. * What did we do well? * What did we do poorly? * What would you recommend for next year? * How can we make it better? Let's all put our heads together, and discuss, and work our way to a 3rd Annual Proving Grounds 2011 that triples its size once again
I thought it went ok. Was hoping for more action @ the open lap/high speed autox. The AutoX setup was pretty weak. Last years was better Hope these 2 can be properly set if MAP plans to do a 3rd one. Drag racing is drag racing. Drift is drift.
The high speed AutoX was pretty weak, might as well just do another open lapping event then do a time attack session. Are the results for the high speed autoX, drift, drag up yet? Where can we see the results?
As I was expecting, communication/organization was in dire need. We arrived on Friday and were forced to pay $25 at the gate, regardless that we were only there for Sat, not the $10 advertised. They also had no clue where we were supposed to go... Found the MAP trailer with nobody to be found (~8:30pm). Went to go camping, but the typical campgrounds were empty (and were not mowed). Decided to go back to the strip and set up there... Got up Sat and found out that there were multiple tech areas (we were looking for the lapping tech). Again, lack of communication/organization was the issue. Open lapping of Sat: What happened to the 70+ cars?! Wasn't too impressed with the 'Marshal'. Telling people that not following the rules is ok is not the way to run an event like this. Granted, they weren't big issues, but it is better to be lax on the enforcement than to say 'don't worry about xx'. Overall: The rain appeared to deter a lot of people, but not us. Driving the RS through torrential rain and ~2 miles of hail would have been worth it, if the car didn't break after 10 laps on Sat. Strange engine issues (knocking and hunting at idle periodically, but fine everywhere else; appeared to be related to load as if you turn the wheel, it got worse), and a blown CV boot ended our day before we even put the real tires on! We each ran our first session (5 laps) with the street tires, getting warmed up. Didn't even get to push the car, which was feeling like it was setup quite well for the track/conditions. Need a swap, got tired of waving everyone by in the straights. I would do the event again, but next time I will push harder for better info up front (tried to push Blake for more info, but didn't get anything, not even an overview sent out to those that preregistered). Time to change the tierod, fix the boot, figure out the engine and get out again....
^^ I didn't see no models... Otherwise well said and i'm sad i didn't get a ride in your 240 around the track.
