After seeing a number of multiple rear-end accidents today, i feel compelled to post this. A: Don't tailgate B: Remember that when it is really cold, you're stopping power is greatly reduced. Your tires (even snows) don't grip as effectively, even on dry pavement. You brakes don't have the bite. C: Cold plastic cracks like nothing else. Thank You (There's also now a cop camping OPUS every snow day, see if you can find him!)
I was almost rear ended last night on my way home from work. I was stopped in a line of cars at a red light and see a neon flying up behind me....braced myself for impact when he looked up (saw him in the rearview mirror). He slammed on his brakes and turned his wheel but kept sliding forward. At the last second he got traction and swerved past me. ...that would've hurt bad
I've been rear ended in my WRX, luckily the person slowed enough to where there is no damage to my car, but her insurance still cut me a check to get my rear bumper re painted.
Also, I know I've avoided rear endings on more than one occasion by leaving some space in front and to the side and being paranoid watching my rear view when stopped. Also got tagged once but no damage since I was moving forward trying to scoot out of her way when I saw her barreling in unaware. lolz
See, if our cars could drive on their own, there wouldn't be problems like this. People are obviously incapable of driving safely and avoiding distractions. It would be so great, and easy to use, like your damn GPS, just pick the road conditions and program it to take you wherever you wanna go - but since people can't seem to get that right either (OMG WHY DOESN'T IT WORK?! IT'S SNOWING, BUT WHATEVER, LETS LOOK AT IT AND SEE) - i imagine that there would be newer problems. At least they'd be new problems, and not this crap we're used to seeing. (sorry, had to rant, I am so tired of being a cautious, sane driver in a sea of idiocy)
They're now there. Hiding and patroling. last few times I've been there in teh snow, there's been a car.
^^ Thats crazy because i have been wanting to go their when it snows because all of the way around their its a one way only. I used to go their during the summer to do some three wheelin in my mini truck but i guess i wont anymore? Thanks for the heads up!
There's a Volvo for those people. It stops itself. Really. Volvo drivers have reached that low. http://www.scaryideas.com/video/9680/ Edit: Oh, and if the work as badly as the plan old normal brakes my wife's Volvo she had before we were married did, be very, very afraid.
