soo got pulled over this morning for having too loud of an exhaust and for not having a front license plate (a screw fell off so i didnt want it just dangling there..) and i didnt think a ticket for having a loud exhaust would be expensive till i read the ticket saying 169$...and i have an RS with a muffler..so its not even a full exhaust..he told me to get rid of the exhaust and put a normal good one on, just wondering how many of you have gotten pulled over for this and actually took your exhaust off??
Is it a fix-it-ticket? If so, just toss on your stock muffler! To answer your question, I haven't been pulled over for loud exhaust...but I only have a Stromung axleback. It's not very loud and looks stock-ish
i once got pulled over... the officer said the reason why he pulled me over was because my exhaust was too loud... BS... and said for me to get a stock one... then he also said one of my headlights was out... so i went out, check and it was out... luck-a-ly i carry extra bulbs in my car so i replaced it there... he let me go and told me to change my exhaust... but no ticket... so i'm guessing he pulled me over for a head light bulb...
I've been pulled over for a "loud exhaust" as well. Funny thing is--it was stock. No ticket, harassed me about my past poor driving habits. Then I've been pulled over for "having that type of muffler" -- Bullwinkle and a few others were with me and will attest to that being exactly what the cop (cute one too) said. No ticket. Pulled over in my Grand Prix. Ticketed. Took it to the hearing officer, said I was selling the car, just working on it to flip it and make a few bucks, wrote off the ticket. Moral of the story - exhaust is just one of those things that cops will throw out there to pull you over and make sure you're not a complete tool.
I have a 3" turboback. I got pulled over. no fix it ticket. he said in mn that you will just keep getting tickets and maybe after like 4 or 5 they will ask you to fix it...
never been pulled over... self built 3in no cats.. I regularly overtake cops and smile at them... meh
I have been pulled over for it twice. Both times the officer was fairly nice about it. First time, just asked me to tone it down alittle bit, and the second time he told me to get my exhaust leak fixed (I had a leak where the header meets the uppipe, but I dont think that was the problem ) I did end up switching my exhaust to an STi catback the second time but it was just to avoid getting flack in the future.
Got pulled over once for it, he told me I could keep it on as long as I took it easy in town, then he also said my plate lights were out.....but they worked fine.
yea, he kinda slightly threw the fact that when i had my honda...i had a loud exhaust and a neighbor called it in and they came to my house to ask to take it off...so the officer today said i know for a fact your neighbors dont like your car..even tho its a different car... **sigh**
try to fight the ticket just for the chance you might win. i hate the law being put into the disgression of the officer. that gives them all the power to enforce any crazy amount of noise limit they feel like. it also lets them pick on a "type" of car like tuners. ive had a loud exhaust ticket but mine was for sure WAY too loud. no axle back is a good way to get pulled over.
PITA but fight any noise ticket. The noise is usually a Trojan Horse strategy for Juanny Law to achieve some other goal when pulling you over - DUI, probation, etc. In fact, I know of people that got out of DUIs because the reason for pulling them over (loud exhaust) was unsupportable (not an advertisement for driving under the influence).
Well right on the tickets is normally does not say the amount, it will say a statue # then you have to look on another sheet to see the fine amount. Also vehical statues start with a 169... so 169.69 is exhaust, and 169.43 is headlights. So just go to your local police station and ask them. It might just be a "fix it" ticket.
correct...also if u have a citation, there should be a cite# that u can look online how much is ur fine is
never in the subaru, but i got 2 fix it's in my SHO. they really pulled me over for dark tint, then they just tack on what ever else is a violation (if they are in a ticketing mood) like what was said before, loud exhaust, tint, lights out etc, just probable cause for investigating if there are bigger problems, warrants, drugs, DUI that they can get you for. for what its worth -dan
i got a citation for exhaust on my truck (flowmaster 40 series dumped after the exit) but thats not all. it was on my way home from ashland to mpls to put the truck in storage for winter, cop pulls me over and makes me sit there for about an hour, comes back with a citation for exhaust, and a ticket for being too low. after all that time explaining to him that i can raise the truck to stock height and even showing him, he comes back with that ticket...dont get me wrong, with being a minitrucker that was probably the coolest ticket i could get, but 190 bucks for being too low isnt so fun.
you can get a ticket for being too low?!!!!!!!!! i would only imagent that being true if a car was scraping the pavement like some low riders do but honestly how many people only drive with sparks flying behind them?
yea i was on air, and riding with the rear bumper about 1/2 inch off the ground. but the thing is air ride has the best ride quality at a certain psi, which tends to be pretty low, mine was 8psi and full lift was 30. in wisc. you cant have the lowest part of your vehicle be lower than the lowest point of your wheel/rim. it sounds a little confusing but that is literally what the law states. its bull****
These are the relevant Minnesota statues/rules that I could find. Maybe MNsubaru should invest in a decibel meter. https://www.revisor.leg.state.mn.us/statutes/?id=169.69 https://www.revisor.leg.state.mn.us/statutes/?id=169.693 https://www.revisor.leg.state.mn.us/rules/?id=7030.1060
