I just got pulled over forhaving fun on the ice, I didn't really do anything all that great either? I didn't get a ticket but I did get the lecture, it sure felt funny to geta hard time from a cop that was younger than me aboutacting my age! Seriously I didn't think that the police had jusristiction (SP) on the ice?

why wouldn't they have jurisdiction if the ice is in the county or city where the cop is employed? It's not like a lake is immediately international waters or something just because it's a lake.

Sherriff and state officials can and do enforce on lakes
Police, I believe it depends on the lake.

You can get a reckless or careless on a lake.

That is ghey regardless. It's more a statement on how effing lazy most of them are because if they honestly completed their thought it would come down to "....and we really don't want you doing that because you might get hurt/stuck/damaged and then we'd have to do work instead of just simply harassing you for your fun/tint/exhaust...".

I know in a Wisconsin where I am from the Police were specifically not allowed to drive their vehicles upon the ice (town Police), and from what I have heard the DNR has normal jusridiction on bodies of water?

Yup, most cases: DNR, Sherrif's Dept.

But, if your in town as in St. Paul, Minneapolis, or surrounding burbs, I believe the coppers can enter the ice to issue warnings/tickets.

this is true here too, a police officer cannot go on to the ice, he/she can wait for you to come off and issue you a ticket from witnessing your acts on the lake, but most dont because of how likely it would be for the offender to fight the ticket, thus a good lecture from the cop is about all you usually get.
now if were talking about a sheriff/water patrol, he/she can drive on the ice and pull you over, and if that happens...... well I hope you dont mind payin the price....

IMO, just play around in a back bay and drive a few bays away to a different landing when you get off the lake :dunno:

    Oh, and this.\/\/\/
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------
    169.13. Reckless or careless driving

Subdivision 1. Reckless driving. (a) Any person who drives any vehicle in such a manner as to indicate either a willful or a wanton disregard for the safety of persons or property is guilty of reckless driving and such reckless driving is a misdemeanor.

    (b) A person shall not race any vehicle upon any street or highway of this state. Any person who willfully compares or contests relative speeds by operating one or more vehicles is guilty of racing, which constitutes reckless driving, whether or not the speed contested or compared is in excess of the maximum speed prescribed by law.

Subd. 2. Careless driving. Any person who operates or halts any vehicle upon any street or highway carelessly or heedlessly in disregard of the rights of others, or in a manner that endangers or is likely to endanger any property or any person, including the driver or passengers of the vehicle, is guilty of a misdemeanor.

Subd. 3. Application. (a) The provisions of this section apply, but are not limited in application, to any person who drives any vehicle in the manner prohibited by this section:

    (1) upon the ice of any lake, stream, or river, including but not limited to the ice of any boundary water; or

    (2) in a parking lot ordinarily used by or available to the public though not as a matter of right, and a driveway connecting the parking lot with a street or highway.

    (b) This section does not apply to:

    (1) an authorized emergency vehicle, when responding to an emergency call or when in pursuit of an actual or suspected violator;

    (2) the emergency operation of any vehicle when avoiding imminent danger; or

    (3) any raceway, racing facility, or other public event sanctioned by the appropriate governmental authority.
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------

I think it's goofy. Who is to say that you were endangering lives? Either way, I don't see it stating who has jurisdiction over them.

According to the first part couldn't you argue driving sideways isn't out of control/reckless driving? Makes sense?

    Yes, you could.
But the argument is for the 80 year old judge who drives his ES300 35mph in the left lane.
The key is to be far away from entrances, fish houses, and homes where the owners care.

I'd argue that in the middle of a lake, 1/4 mile away from the nearest anything you can't even harm yourself. If you were close to fish houses and other cars to cause a hazard, you shouldn't be such a *******.

so they should act ONLY after something happens? HAHA just because you know how to drive your car doesnt mean that all of the F&F ricers out there know what they are doing. im my mind id rather see them arrest the drunk driver who is speeding down the road, than have book him only if he crashes. really....we all know we are being reckless even though we can do it better than the average driver. that doesnt mean they can tell the difference. i respect the police and their job. if you ever get a ticket, there is no one els to blame but yourself.....unless it wasnt you haha

    pick up what im sayin?

Guy didn't even get a ticket. Nothing worth complaining about.
Consider it a free lesson to do it far away from people.

Bikerboy and I once got talked to for being on the lake. I think the main reason we did not get a ticket is because there was another vehicle further out and they did not want to go walking through the snow to talk to them..

This shouldn't be that big of a deal, I really thought it was humorous to get remided of my age and setting a good example. In some places it was in the past quite acceptable to do some spirited driving to learn the limits of one's car. Obviously this is not realy acceptable any more and it is sad that most people learn the limits of thier ride just before the crash. I also thought the oficer thought I was perhaps younger
