Pumping Gas

So I was pumping gas today and put the lever on auto. The gun didn't stop pumping when the tank was full so it sprayed out all over. Was it my cars fault is something wrong? Or maybe just the pump? J/W.

Your are supposed to watch the pump at all times. That's why they post that sign all over the frikkin place. Your just lucky you didn't drive off with the pump like some other joker...

this happened to me twice and ONLY wit my wrx and ONLY when I was out of town on two seperate trips on two seperate occasions. I think the pump is the problem, I always put the pump on auto and have been pumping gas since I was 10 (illegal in some states but not ND) and have never had a problem until my wrx. I think that the filler neck might be shaped funny, who knows?

My brother's 72 240Z has this issue largely because PO ripped out what little emissions equipment it had without much regard for what it did (and replacing emissions equipment on a 35 year old, engine swapped car seems a bit weird)
If it keeps happening, its something to do with the tank not venting right (actually, venting too much).
However, most likely, its the pump.

 

You guys (you know who you are) are pretty horrible about keeping threads on topic.
