anyone know where I can find the Purolator PureOne oil filter for an 09 WRX. called around a few stores nobody seems to have them anymore. any help would be great or recommendations on an oil filter to use. using AMSOIL 5 30 synthetic. thanks D
If you have amazon prime I would suggest amazon. If you don't have amazon prime I would suggest getting it. Amazon often has crazy low prices on parts. The pure one variety are hard to find. Personally, if I don't get purolator for whatever reason, NAPA gold is my next highest choice. Mostly because its a minute from my house.
I am an Amsoil man through and through, but their filters are so damn expensive! I guess if your not in college and poor like me 15 dollars Vs. 5 dollars isn't to bad
It sounds like there are some issues with Purolator filters and Subarus. They used to recommend the 14612 but the bypass valve doesnt meet the design requirements for Subaru. They changed the filter number to 14615 but I have yet to find a place that has one. A lot of people like wix filters. They can be picked up at Oreily auto or you can get a Napa Gold filter which is a rebranded Wix filter. Some people still go for the Subaru filters. I was using them until the recall.
I heard the same being true for the bypass valve in the NAPA Gold filters. Napa Gold 1365 Superseded by Napa Gold 7712.
Great oil filter specifications comparison: http://www.subaruforester.org/vbulletin/f113/subaru-oil-filter-comparison-99130/#post1077639
Here's an oil filter comparison that will blow your mind. They also have an air filter comparison that in combination with the oil filter comparisons will theoretically obliterate you. http://www.gmtruckcentral.com/articles/oilfilterstudy.html
This. I used to run the purolator (advance auto parts has them in stock) but recently switched to the wix/Napa due to the bypass valve. Tons of debate on this if you search nasioc/iwsti.
Lol K&N is terrible! Im surprised people even use them anymore. Edit: K&N air filter, not oil filter.
Nothing wrong with them IMO but it is a convenience factor. I use Wix filters and have been for the last 4 years. Always buy them off of Amazon to have it delivered to my door . I actually bought them in a 12 pack since it was available (this was not a Prime eligible purchase though so I got charged $11 for shipping...even with the shipping the cost per filter is a tick over $5/each). Individually they costed $10 each on Amazon with free shipping so I made a long term decision to keep my wallet heavier
If there were so many allegedly sh!tty oil filters (Fram, Subaru blue made by Honeywell, etc) on the market don't you suppose we would see literally hundreds of cars on the side of the road with seized engines? Especially with all the people that frequent Kwiky Lube places, we know there are a lot of cars that don't get fitted with OEM filters.
I don't remember exactly, but with the MNSubaru at Morries in Brooklyn Park I thought filters were around $5 each. I usually buy 3-5 at a time depending on what the stock is at the time.
The affects from low quality filters probably wont cause engine failure at all. They might cause dirty oil leak-back and slight oil starvation due to a bad or poorly constructed bypass valve.. Realistically, run whatever you want. replace it when you change your oil. And worry about more important things.
Yeah, intended for use with their longer oil change interval signature series, and extended life oils. I personally use the OE Amsoil, Purolator pureone filter, and I change it every 5K. I wasn't thinking along the lines of Amsoil XL or Signature. If your using either of them and changing every 10K a synthetic specific filter should probably be used.
Wow that is a great link. Interesting to see that the Fram was one of the better ones. Seems like the ticket would be to run one of the o.k. filters like the Wix/Napa, then once a year run a Amsoil EaO filter for one cycle of oil to clear out the small 5um particulate matter.
