It’s my understanding that as of late there is a feeling that this club has been mostly one sided to rally and nothing else. I just wanted to let you all know that we are planning a wide range of events. As discussed by our events officer in the events section, you’ll see we have a lot of great events coming up, both social and motorsports based. I really encourage you all to come out, be it spectating or participating. I fully understand that not everyone wants to race their car and the officers and I want to offer events for everyone where possible.

I just wanted to start this thread to have people feel free to ask me questions. Please don’t hesitate to ask questions about the MNSOC club, what we plan on doing, what’s happening, general questions or what YOU would like to see offered by the club. I might not know all the answers, but I’ll do my best to find the answer.

Thank you for starting this thread. I do not feel this club is one sided and I do see that the officers are working to expand and improve the activities, as well as other forum related items.

Question: what is the difference between MNSOC and MNSubaru.com? I have asked MNSOC officers, read threw the MNSOC Member Discussions subforum, The Welcome Mat subforum, the Newb Info subforum, read the Club By-laws, read the General Site Rules and I have looked on the main pages of this board and I still do not understand and have not received a logical explanation. From what I have gathered, MNSOC is the incorporated business end of a Subaru enthusiast club based in Minnesota. And MNSubaru.com is a internet board which provides the local Subaru community with an online gathering place for all sorts of discussions. It is still unclear to me why there are two entities or why they are separated. What is the purpose of having two different names for what appears to be the same organization? Can you please enlighten me?

    Regards,
    ~Dan

    Dan,

You have answered your own question as to what the differences are. MNSOC is a car club that sanctions and insures social and motorsports events for local Subaru enthusiasts. MNSubaru is a discussion forum and website. MNSOC uses MNSubaru to publicize it's events and activities. We tried to merge the two in an effort to avoid confusion and that failed. In the near future, we will be bringing back the MNSOC section of the MNSubaru forum.

In simple words, the reason there is two entities is to provide legal separation between what the club does and what get posted on the site.

    I hope this answer helps.

Don't believe every complaint you hear I guess, that one is old, I've heard people complaining about "too much rally" since before MNSOC existed. I also don't know how many people really share that complaint, I've only heard it from a very small number of people ever.

Yes, we have a lot of club _members_ who are active and passionate about rally/rallycross/iceracing, etc, but I think the club itself has been pretty balanced.

    Thank you.

The point I was hoping to make is we want to know what types of events the members want. Then we will do our best to offer those events.

    C'mon who cares?
Any chances of having MNSOC special track events like driving classes at BIR?

From what I've *heard*, there is concern about non-MNSOC events such as what goes on up in Orr annually.

From my perspective, there will always be events and gatherings that are organized through the website, but not necessarily sponsored or organized by MNSOC like the gatherings at Firestone or Deer Lodge Resort. MNSOC serves as as a legal entity to host specific events for club members that want more invovement than the few social gatherings offered historically.

That is certainly one of the types of events we hope to offer in the future. However, track rental and insurance are expensive (over 5K combined) so we will need to make sure we can get enough entrants to cover expenses.

I will be busy the rest of the day so please understand if I don't reply until later today or tomorrow. Thanks for offering your thoughts on the club.

Well, that's a tough question. Every event is important to me as it relates to the future of the club. However, since my background is in competition, I would say that I am personally very excited about our future motorsports events. I have also enjoyed the meets we have had. I guess the event I look forward to the most in our future isn't scheduled yet. It is a track day event at BIR. I know we don't have one scheduled yet but it is one of my goals to help get a MNSOC track day started.

I know I didn't give a straight answer, what president does?!?!?
