Been searching for buying a home for awhile now and have a curious Q about homes in Brooklyn center & Brookyln Parks. Does ALL house in Brooklyn Center and Brooklyn Park uses a water softener or water treatment system? I"ve been seeing a few houses and some does have water softener and some does not so I'm kind of confuse about it. I know in mpls around 52nd-ish Ave and up uses water softener. Just asking b/c my parents does not like slimmy water. Due to that the chances of we living in BC/BP is very little. Trying to get out of 55411 but hope to stay within regular water. so, does all hosue in bc/bp have water softener or just some area? even the description on a FS house saids "City Water", I still find yes and no to my Q.
well a water softener is usually just a preference thing. i myself have a well system where the water is very "hard" so i have a water softener just to make it so i can actually use the water to wash dishes/clothes ,shower etc. where if you have city water it may be "softer" allowing you to use it without a softener. a softener doesn't deal with making your water less slimy it just reduces the amount of minerals...to clean the water you would need a purification system such as a reverse osmosis buy that gets to be a whole new topic
ok, maybe I dont quite know what I'm asking but i'll try. What causes the water to be slimmy and how do I avoid/fix that? What does the salt you buy from the store do?
I haven't ever seen slimy water, but water softeners are used to convert hard water to soft water. You usually can't tell the difference by looking at the water, but hard water makes it harder for soap to lather in the shower. Most city water is soft. If you look at enough houses in an area you'll figure out if you need a water softener or not. If every house has one, you need one.
Our water is nasty .. but we have a 3M plant in our town. They deny dumping stuff, but .. uhm, so why is the town going after you for PFC contamination if you didn't dump anything huh? Our water dries brown in the pet's water bowl. I have to scrub the residue out with a scrubby. We put a softener and a reverse osmosis thing in that's supposed to help clear it out .. but nothing. It's still brownish when it comes out and I still don't want to drink it ... and apparently it's different on every block. This neighborhood gets the lightest brown water, while at my job it was pretty gross - it came out brownish and the sink & toilet had the same brownish residue. I've seen it come out black before in my house, when they weren't flushing the pipes. So I'm saying, it doesn't matter how much research you do - unless you want to go to all of the neighbors on the block when you find a house and ask them what the water's like, you would be better off investing in a heavy duty softener and putting a filtration system in the house. Or just get one of those screw-on brita ones taht go on the sink. Just make sure to keep up with the maintenance on it or else it defeats the purpose of having it.
its not that is slimmy out of the tap but hardwater will leave this light brown almost orange slime film in your shower. We had hard water in college... 5 guys one bathroom no one cleans.. it got pretty gross
Yeah, my ex never cleaned his shower in the apartment we shared, by the time I moved out without him, there was black mold growing in there. BLACK MOLD ... all up the sides and in the cracks and all over the damn shower ... And he still didn't clean it. Oh, and I'm allergic to mold. Hard water is my enemy. Yuck.
