Does anyone know the breakdown on this. I hear its changed and i need to know how much i need to bring so i can pick up a car for the wife. The car is listed at $18911 if that helps.
The registration taxes are based on what the car's MSRP is. For the 08 STi, I had to pay registration taxes based on the amount that it would have gone for when brand new, not what I paid for it. Sales taxes are based on actual purchase price. But, this is all for cars that were not registered in MN prior to 2008. If it was registered in MN before that, then it is grandfathered in.
The new rule is 1.25% of vehical msrp with an auto transmission plus $10 Then it goes down 10% every year. This only applys to cars titled after Sept 1, 2008. If it already has a MN title and plates prior to that date, then it will be less
so the highest price possible. how do they work that for cars like the STI that have no auto? do they just add what the cost of an auto would be?
Just curious, what did it cost you gents to register your brand new STI's this year? I spent a little over $100 for my 02' rex, and I thought that was outrageous. Then again, I spent $140 on my bike here in california...so I digress....
I just titled my forester, it was in the same ballpark for price. I think it was around 1500 tax, title and license
I just moved my 06 WRX from WI registration/title to MN. It cost $244, which I thought was outrageous. It looks like the new cost for tabs are dependent on vehicle MSRP as well as model year.
you guys are pay A LOT! it is really outrageous. But also MN is one of the states with higher taxes. I just got my new tabs and only paid the minimum $35+ fees. It's nice to have a 10 year old car That's another reason I won't buy a new car. Then they complain the car market went down the drain...
I brought my car for $13500, and the total reg. and tabs I paid almost $1200!! I believe the sales tax was at 6.75%, $25 out of state reg. fee, and some misc fee that I don't remember..
well i bought the car for the wife 06 BMW X3 :ugh: I know I know. I really wanted the new forester xt but the wife did not like the styling, she said she still felt like she was driving a wagon. Taxes came to be around 1400 bucks. WOW.
