Anyone know if a place where i can get a cheap little plug in for it? Am I even able to do this with the stock 6 disc in dash? all details would be greatly appreciated.
JL Audio makes whats called a "Clean Sweep" http://mobile.jlaudio.com/products_cleansweep_pages.php?page_id=94 May be worth looking into, for quality and sound it more than likely can't be beat. I found these when I was looking into trading the WRX for an LGT, since the LGT has a integrated stereo head unit this seemed like the best option for an after market woofer and amp/amps setup plus the Ipod plug in.
The cheapest would be to get a cassette adapter for the 6 disc since in 02 it still had cassette. Otherwise you can get this which will add an aux-in, but you need to play a silent CD or something like that when you're using it. Well is there an AUX input in the back of the stock deck? If so, just go buy a AUX cable with two male ends and viola
I'm pretty sure there isn't an AUX input in the rear of the deck. On some of the foresters with the newer 6cd changer headunits there is a 13 pin connector allowing you to fab up your own aux cable with that end on it to plug in and then play a "silent cd" track. I actually made one for my car (I'm using an 02 6cd changer hu from a wrx) but when I pulled it out in the location where I thought it would have the 13 pin round connector I found a different rectangle one. So it's possible that someone could try doing the same type of thing with that end. Maybe a Saturday project for me if I have time Here's a picture.. nothing pretty but if you wanted to use black wire etc it would look fine. I'm pretty sure the 13 pin end was this: http://cgi.ebay.com/13-Pin-Din-Conn...ryZ96966QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
I can tell you this right now there is no way to hook up an ipod/mp3 player to your stock deck like some stock decks will (such as ford). Your only option is what Joel (prezawagon) said. If you have an ipod, I strongly recommend this deck: http://www.alpine-usa.com/US-en/products/product.php?model=iDA-X001 It is what I have and I bought the same thing for my wife's car. Look online and you should be able to pick it up for cheap. I found it at best buy on clearance about 8 months ago for $80, which was a steal. The newer models are even better. It is worth the money, trust me. If you want to see it in action, I can try to meet you down at firestone at some point. Just PM me.
Because you're Chet. Seriously, there is no Aux plug on the back. Get one of the "Silent CD" units and run with that. 02 decks are limited.
Probably because he is looking for something cheap. By the time you buy that dsp and the source expander for it, I'm sure it would cost more than buying an aftermarket head unit. Even the Jazzy Engineering piece is pushing the cost/benefit ratio of just going to aftermarket, unless you really want to keep the stock head unit. But, that does look like a great option for cars where the factory stereo is really integrated into the dash and not easy to replace.
I have a Pioneer MP3/Ipod deck. Pretty much the best way, although you would be replacing your head unit. Works great though, and no static bs to deal with. Pioneer DEH-5000IB
I used the cassette adapter in my '02 WRX. Except, I inserted the cassette adapter with the faceplate removed. Ran the cable behind the facepalte toward the glove box. When I want to connect, open the glovebox and pull the connection out. Never remove the cassette adapter or touch eject. No one can tell you have a hidden cassette input adapter. Vila
Side note I have an Alpine deck with a direct cable to my Ipod that I bought for around $220 last year at Ultimate Electronics. LOVE IT!
QUestion for u guys that have aftermarket decks installed did u guys buy adapter brackets? or how exactly did u guys fit it if u can provide any pictures
Ultimate was out of stock so I got it from a small hole in the wall car audio place in Richfield. I believe some other cars like the Lancer and Corolla may use the same one, you could always use Crutchfield.com or SoundDomain.com.
kool thanks guys i'll try and look for it ive had a pioneer for a while now but havent had time to install it bcuz of school and work and also cuz i couldnt find something like that
