ok, so i was driving earlier tonight and noticed that when I was in 2nd gear, i heared a "ticking" noise like something was hanging up on my U joint. when I pulled my car over, put it in neutral and let out the clutch. the worst noise I have ever heared coming from a car is what I heared. sounded like something in my engine from outside the car, I tried to pull the car forward and it instantly stalled like someone jammed a metal rod in my motor, again not a great noise. I tried for reverse, and stuck there. Bad bearing? metal in my shift galleys? the transmission is from a 1.8l impreza. I have a legacy turbo with a downpipe and less than stock boost (shot turbo) so my question is, before I pull the tranny, what may be wrong? im trying to think on the bright side but, well, having your car crying in your arms kind of puts a dark cloud over the "bright side"
How does this relate to bodily fluids? I wonder if something broke (ie a gear) and that little broken piece has floated its way into something crucial (ie another gear) which is causing the binding. you might try draining the tranny and fell around in there to see if there are any chunks present.
yeah, I'm not sure what the subject was refering to, I changed it to something more related to the topic, it might help to get more people to read the thread and office advice. Anyway, I agree with martin, before you pull the tranny, drain the oil and check for any chunks of metal in there.
no, there was actually no urine involved in any of this, but I drained the oil out and I didnt find any pieces, though the magnet on the plug was filled with as many microscopic pieces of metal that could be magnetised to it, there was also "flakes" of metal in the oil, not so much that I would guess my trans was shot though..... I pulled the tranny last night and I will be taking the trans it self apart tonight. is there any exchange shop I can go to and get a rebuilt one and trade for my core?
