yea...i have a up pipe, downpipe and cat back exhaust and a HKS BOV, just wonder do i have to tune the ECU, or i heard someone said i only have to but a accessport? and i dont really know what that is?? can anyone explain and tell me either tune the ECU or but a AP is better? thx for the Help Guys!! Kin
ok, you should probably do some reading up before getting into this. An accessport is just a method of tuning. there are several other methods of tuning your car, some replacing your factory ECU (standalone) some modifying it, some reflashing it. Since it seems like you might not know much about what is going on mechanically an accessport would be a good choce as its probably the most user friendly. You'd probably have to take off your BOV to run an off the shelf map.
The accessport is an ecu tuning device, it will remap you ecu and give you about 40 more hp and sooner more consistant boost. But you really don't need to tune you ecu... But do it anyways because it is really cheap power and there is a new accessport coming out. Some people are using openecu also (much cheaper) Hope this helps
You'd probably have to take off your BOV to run an off the shelf map.[/QUOTE] ok ...do u know how much are the AP out there? either USED or NEW well what do u mean run an off the shelf map. and why do i have to take the BOV off?? thx kin
yea that helps! but i just dont know where should i go for the ECU tune and how much lol ...yea, if i gonna but a AP, i would go for cheap or used one, doesnt really matter right?
off the shelf maps are maps that is made to work on every car base with certain modifications. Kinda like advil is a off the shelf head ache medicine compared to a prescription medicine for headaches. with that said, you really don't need to replace the bov with the stock one. it's just that the off the shelf maps were tuned for the stock bov therefore it'll run the most efficient with the stock BOV(or any aftermarket recirculationg bov) vs an aftermarket atmospheric BOV which is what you have. anyways, get the AP! i would if they had one for my RS!
600 new or about 400-500 used. I think there was one on here for super cheap about a week ago. I think Steve-O is the one doing openecu tuning, if not just call shane at tintmasters in fargo and he will know.
If you bought the car with all those mods its probably (hopefully?) already been tuned. If you put all those on, you'd better be careful with that thing until you get the boost control set up right for all the extra air moving through your motor.
Unless you somehow figured out how to redo the firmware of the ECU itself, there is NO possible way to tune for an atmospheric BOV. The extra air that should be recirculated is programmed directly into the hardware itself.
I'm not in the cities all the time. I go to school in Fargo. If you are looking for an openecu tune either Tom(wall of tvs) or Russ(WRX1) can hook it up without a problem. Yeah, you can tune with the BOV... it's not a "preferred" mod... but it doesn't make the car untunable.
Sure you can still get your car running really good with your BOV. It's just that there is no way to compensate for it like how you can compensate for an intake, TBE, TMIC, etc. with the parameters of the ecu maps. I'd say that if you like the cool noises it makes, leave it on. It won't hurt anything.
