there is a huge differece on em between jdm and usdm engines, on any of the older jdm engines your are limited on what to use, power fc, link, there's a couple other ones too, but then you have the tuning issue, it is very hard to get a protune with some of the older style em's where as the usdm stuff is pretty easy to get a protune and much easier to find people willing to tune your car.

i am looking into a apexi power fc for my car once i have the extra money, i have a jdm 94 ej20g motor. some people have told me that the only place i could get it protuned would be at a place in canada, so that kinda sucks.

i guess it comes down to how extreme you want to get on your car and how much power you want to put down. with jdm ecu's you have alot more room to work with anyways as they aren't as concerned with changes as the usdm ecu's. the older ecu's have the ability to learn a little and change as conditions in the engines change.
hopefully my info is useful and accurate.

thanks...well...im thinking about getting the same motor swap...was it difficult to swap the motor? as for wiring and etc? because i was thinking that if its obd1..most plugs should just plug and play type...i think or know im wrong...for example...the ej20g plugs should just plug right up with our obd1 dash plugs...without rewiring or anything....but yea...well...i guess i'll figure it out...but i am going to take the front lsd and put it into mines...its an automatic ej20g...but yea...

    thanks,

You could always go with a full standalone like the AEM unit.
supposed to be a really nice engine management system.

Your options are: Full standalone (Hydra, AEM, Motec, etc), Replacement ECUs (Link, Apexi Power FC), or piggybacks (Unichip, S-AFC, ITC, etc).
For V5 and above there is an ECUTEK reflash available. It is ECUTEK '99. The only place in this continent that has it is Lachute Subaru in Quebec. There is a chance of about 1 in 6 that your ECU will be fried in the process to.
I personally want an Apexi PFC, but it'll be a while untill I can afford one; a new tranny is higher in my priority list.

yeah, i would probably wait until you get your swap done and running good before i would think about purchasing em. you can make your car plenty fast without em  but it is good to know options before you get started.

Link would be nice to use use as an ECU (I'd use LinkPlus now)

but your're on your own tuning it. AEM you could probably find more people who know their way around the software, but not a lot who know how to tune it for your specific application , whereas if you look hard enough you can find whole setup guides for Link ECU installation onto an EJ20G motor
