Hey. I had a thought. Is there a need for "wtb subaru/rs/wrx" threads? There are generally four kinds of people on this site: 1. Has a suby. 2. Wants a suby. 3. Had one, still hangs out here. 4. Has a suby, wants to sell it. Wouldn't it stand to reason that the people selling their suby's will have them listed as being FOR SALE? Simply creating a " WTB WRX" thread really shouldn't cause members to all of a sudden post their car for sale. I thought this is why we have the "search" function. A new member or an existing member that wants to buy a car can simply "search" the FS/WTB/GB section, or even click through a few pages of threads and READ the titles....looking for things like "wagon fs" etc. Let me know if this is a retarded idea and I'm wasting your time by having you read this.
I know I looked through the classifieds before I bought MEngo's wagon, so I didn't post a WTB. But since I gave my brother that wagon, and when I'm ready for my next Impreza, I'll be looking for a specific car, I'll probably post a WTB, because that way maybe someone who is only leaning towards selling will get a hold of me and we can work something out.
Something I want to try is having a sticky thread in the FS section that has a list of links to all the Subarus for sale. Unfortunately I think I would have to maintain that list manually. But, it might be worth doing. Another though I had is ask everyone selling a Subaru to put a specific unique keyword in their thread so a search for something like "MNSUBARU4SALE" would only return results with Subarus for sale, and then remove that keyword when the car sells.
But the thing with adding a new forum is that after so many days (default is 10), the threads will no longer show up. There is nothing that can be set on the site side of things, because the user side over rides that setting. So even if I were to add sub-forums, unless the end user either changes his days, or searches, they will not show up. Russ
well all i know is posting a wtb thread worked for me especially since many of the for sale threads do not get deleted or closed when they are sold others have no recent activity (like the one we ended up buying) and looked like they were no longer offered or sale complete
but, with a WTB thread, you're not just looking for member's cars for sale. you're asking if anyone has seen one for sale, has a friend that might be selling one, etc. there are lots of cars that might be for sale that don't necessarily get listed as for sale.
