after 9 years and 200k miles of faithful service, the MN weather gods have seen fit to strike down one of our finest. josh's car was in one of the garages that flooded this weekend and his car is more than likely not going to survive the ordeal. the full extent of damage hasn't quite been determined but it's more likely than not that it's totaled. say a prayer for the old girl if you would!! at about 1:30, you can see the part of the lot where josh's garage is. as a frame of reference, the water was above the garage door handle. :emo: http://www.kare11.com/video/default.aspx?bctid=1060995529001
Nooooooooooooooooooo. What's with the flooding ? Sorry if it sounds like a stupid question, but I'm a bit out of touch with events in MN lately since the government here nuked our main power station last week. Idiots.
Some areas got over 6 inches in 4 hours Friday night. A large section of 694 and 35w (right where Josh lives) was shut down Saturday thanks to a collapsed water drain. Sounds almost as bad as your situation. How long were you out of power?
Wow, that's a lot of rain. We don't get rain here in the summer. It'll be back in October, though. Most of the island was down for most of last Monday, with power finally coming back on in the evening. At home, we didn't actually lose power at all until Thursday when we were hit with our first rolling blackout. Now we're out of power for at least two hours a day, but we still don't have a schedule, so we don't know which two hours it will be. It's very frustrating since we have to keep the servers in the office off more than they're on
damn that sux! I was flying out that friday and the rain and storms jacked up all kinds of flights. I didnt realize it was that bad until i read this Sorry bout your loss man
What you going to now? That sucks about the flood, what car was it? maybe I'd be interested in buying it back from Josh lol. Ben
I'm not going to really discuss the next car as I still have some other things to do and worry about before I can consider it. I don't want to start blabbing on about it until I can say for certain. Selling the WRX and the Datsun is step one.
Bet on totaled. Even with fairly new cars water damage is an almost sure total for insurance companies. I had a 2-1/2 month old Nissan SE-R totaled out in Eden Prairie back in '93. Engine was toast, the rest of the car didn't have a scratch on it. Insurance company basically said over a certain % water damage, it's automatic. They'd end up paying out more in the long run to cover hidden issues from the water over time.
Yeah..new engine...and I personally put all new suspension and steering into it within the past two months. :emo:
Flood damage is over rated, put used interior/carpet in it and drive it. It's not like it was salt water. I'd probably change the fluids too.
Josh, sorry for your loss man. That really sucks. +1 for buying Jasons car. Water damaged cars are never the same, the mechanicals may have survived but the electrics will give you issues now and down the road.
Agreed. My dad's old DD was in 2 feet of water for days before we got it. new carpet, new seats, took apart all the control units and let them dry for a few days. He drove it for another 100k miles before the transmission went out (pre-existing problem....).
I couldn't help but laugh at that trailer trash in the white tank top during that news clip. What a drama queen. Everythings ruined...yet I didnt see a single bottom fall out of any of those dry cardboard boxes they were carrying. Lolface
The car is not dead.....not yet at least. We started going through it last night and the motor is ready to be pulled so it can be torn down and gone through. Most of the wiring and electronics will have to be replaced.....including ecu, bulk head harness, etc....
Good luck with the rebuild. My brother lives in the same apt complex. His 3sgte swap celica with the gt4 front end almost ended up having the same fate as your wrx.
