there's a ridiculously long thread on special stage about this crash and overall safety. glad bob and conrad are ok
one of the spectators standing on the rock pissed his pants, NOTE: this was not an authorized spectator point
not sped up. after any 5 corner an open car will really be cooking. from what i know no spectators were hit, just given a hell of a scare
Yep. I was actually expecting him to be going faster than he was - must have been taking it easy after hitting the kick/crest along with a caution.
I was out there as well. That video is at speed. They were doing 80-100 at that point. They moved the rock 90 degrees from where it was and it turned about 5 feet. No spectators were injured. People did fall off when the car hit and yess one person peed his pants. There was actually a cameraman in front of the rock that dove out of the way at the last second. a few feet to the right and that would have been an even worse situation! Bob and Conrad were both in the hospital and are doing fine. They were released within a day or two. Here Are a few pictures i took when we went to go get the car the next day. Dave
damn dave, thanks for putting up some aftermath shots - that corner got mangled! Thank god for HANS is all I have to say. and please people, if you aren't at an official spectator point, show some good judgment on where you stand
YES and YES to both of you! The Hans device's worked EXACTLY like they were supposed to. Bob did recieve a few fractured ribs and a punctured lung from the force of the HANS device But he DIDN'T Break his neck. Thank You Hans! Also the Cage did its job as well. I have pictures of the force the car took. It totally rippled up the passenger floor, and did a lot more damage. If that cage wasn't in the car they probably would have wound up dead. Also like sniper said, "Thank God the rock moved!" It took a lot of the force out of the impact!
suck to see this happen, but thankful for all the safety equipment and rules they have to keep the drivers safe! glade they are both alright.
In my self centered entitlement, I will tell you to go f-yourself, it is a free country and I will stand were I want to stand. Russ
we should have video playing of all of these near misses playing at rally's so poeple can see exactly what we are talking about. i was a marshal at Ojibwe at spectator area on Co 135 where Babcock rolled. he rolled where many people wanted to stand.
maybe...maybe not I'd love to be able to recce...but that only gives the team an idea of the roads, corners, cautions, etc.... However, when you're at speed everything changes....everything.
Was that the car Mike Wray built or another STI swapped GC? Glad everyone made it out without life threatening injury, although a punctured lung isn't anything to sneeze at.
How many rallies have you competed in to come to this conclusion? How many on stage notes, how many blind, how many with recce? Recce allows teams to go faster. Some would suggest it adds to safety. Most that want Recce blame the lack of it for EVERY incident. The fact is, sometimes we go too fast, simple as that. The secret is, don't overdrive the circumstance. I know this.
Mark, I love how you take accountibility for your missjugdement same w/ziptie crew, I love how you guy aren't Ninnies like ken block, pouting after every car he totals.... What a pansie. You guys can laugh and joke about it and what not.
