Just to give an update on the season ending situation. We have decided to not make up the final 2 rallycrosses. We were having problems finding a venue that would hold up considering how much precipitation we've had leading up to now. And we wouldn't have enough time to get a new site ready in time before the close of the season (November 30th). What this is going to do to the year end championship: Instead of having to run 4 events to qualify for an award, you only had to run 3 events. Instead of scoring the best 6 of 8 events, you will be scored on the best 4 of 6 events. What we have in store for next season: We are working on putting together another rallycross school in December. Stay tuned for more details soon on that. We are looking at more venues to give a better variety of surfaces and locations, some around the metro area to keep travel down to a minimum. We will need to put together a planning meeting again sometime around the awards banquet time. So if you have any questions, concerns, suggestions please bring them to the meeting or post them up for discussion. Also, if you want get a little more involved with the planning of the season and/or the individual events, you should come to this meeting as well. This meeting will be open to the general rallycross public as well as organizers. We will be putting together the next seasons schedule with events, venue AND eventmasters at this meeting as well. I'm not sure of an exact date just yet so stay tuned for that also. We are still looking for someone that wants to take over as Rallycross Chairperson for the Land O Lakes Region as well. If you have any questions about it or are interested in the position, please get in contact with me ( [email protected] ) or private message me on the forum. If we do not find someone to fill the position, I will remain in the position until someone does take it over. Thank you very much for a fun season and let's look forward to next years season. Erik D
i have a recommendation, correct me if i am wrong, but it doesnt seem like there are any rallyx's near duluth, would it be possible to do some research and develpoment on locations and whatnot to set some up for next season? yet again, just a recommendation, i'm willing to travel
We've tried to keep the rallyx's near the twin cities metro since our competitor base is around the twin cities. I would not be opposed to having one or two events outside of the metro area as long as we can have enough competitors to make it worthwhile. We can't afford, as a region, to take a loss on an event. I would say you probably wouldn't want to find a venue any further than an hour and a half away from either downtown minneapolis or st. paul. Duluth is just too far for us.
that does make alot of sense. it just seems like there are alot of subie owners up in duluth that would probably love to have a rallyx near there. i am sure they are just as willing to travel as i am, so its not a big deal, it would just be pretty cool to have one up north, thanks for the info matchbx!
I know that last spring ('08) there were several people hoping to get a RallyCross series up near Duluth. I believe Tim Winker headed up the meeting that Mark and I went to. If I rememeber correctly, I think that there was a fair amount of support, however there was a lack of sights. While Duluth is pushing the limits of how far most of our base is willng to travel, there are lots of areas south of Duluth that might be more agreeable. If you could find a site around Hinkley or Pine City or Rush City, I would expect that would be within the range that most of the RallyCrossers from the metro area would be willing to travel. I think if you find a site, especially south of Duluth, and get consent from the land owner that a northern RallyCross is feasible. (I know that Brent and I would enjoy something more north ) Carrie
