I went to the autoshow last night. It was smaller than last year and the displays certainly weren't as extravagant as usual but all in all it wasn't too bad. Here are some random thoughts, discuss or feel free to add your own. -The star of the show is certainly the Hyundai Genesis. That car is seriously nice. -The Hyundai coupe looks decent too but looks and feels a lot larger than I was hoping. Hyundai also had the most knowledge rep I talked to all show. -Toyota, seriously could your cars get anymore boring. -The lexus GX and LX suvs are like coffins inside. -The x6 looks just as bad in person as it does in pictures -The Yukon denali has a nicer interior than the Escalade, speaking of which 72k for the Escalade wtf. -I had only seen the Malibu in pictures, it really does seem like a solid car inside and out. -Ford seems to have a lot of serious products coming down the line. The new Taurus and Fusion look really good. Why didn’t they have the fiesta there, bad move. -The 7series has a button that looks like a video camera, maybe for shooting pr0n in the backseat -A8 and 7series tie for the win on most seat adjustments. -Scion wins for playing the most obnoxious and annoying music. -Range rover wins for most overcomplicated 4wd controls. -The GTR look huge in person. -The Recaro seats in the rx8 are pure sexy time, but why not just add a hole in the bottom for a sub strap, so close. -The solstice coupe looks nice but why couldn’t they have given it a real roof. -The new Ram truck looks legit and has a ridiculous amount of room in the back of the crew cab. That’s all I can think of for now.
mitsu was absent. Pontiac, Saturn, and Hummer were all there... 4-5 Challangers in the dodge booth, These are all WTF things.... also the "ralley car" at the subaru booth, ...pifff meh/.... stock sti stuff w/ a front mount interFOOLer..... how lame!
I'll be hitting up the show tonight after work...free tickets this year..yes! I'll take some pix for u Dream.
Check out the Porsche booth. The chick with the super short hair has "kickin curves" if you catch my drift
I'd like to reiterate something he said in the first post. The Chevy Malibu is a solid car. I hated myself for saying it, but I had one as a rental and it really was a well put together car...and I've driven alot of rental malibus in the past. The Chevy "classic" was a hunk of crap, as was every malibu in that body style. The new one is well appointed, relatively well powered, the 6 speed auto was really nice.
I see them all over the place too. If GM puts their mind to something, they can do a fantastic job. They just have to want to do it.
to demonstrate just how serious hyundai is about storming the g37/lux coupe market like they do every market... and I gotta say, these look sick (especially w a badgeless front grill and debadged rear!) ID HIT IT
They do look great. Their interior is nowhere near the g35c though, even the Hyundai rep noted that. Given that, I don't really see it competing directly with the g35c. It will be interesting what tuners are able to do with the turbo. I wonder if there will be a lot of evo motor swaps. The rep also noted there should be a lighter weight version offered with the track pack; lsd, brembos, track susp, no sunroof. He thought it could possibly be down to the 3000lbs range.
absolutely agree about the gencoupe. i've been following the gencoupe movement for some time now. hoping to have one in my hands very soon. Justin
All that and not even a mention about the fabulous red mustang in the sports car booth. I tell ya, slackers!! I'll be there saturday afternoon and sunday evening. I'm gonna have to take a look at the Genesis coupe. Those things do look nice. I always saw the sedan on the commercials and didn't think anymore of it.
they didn't even have a high end mustang there.... not a new GT, shelby or anything nifty. Also the ZR1 is on the ground!!!
only 3 cars that got me even slightly interested. Mark Utech's Mustang Mark's CJ-8 (I forget his last name. but I've wheeled with "Frozen Assets" on a few occasions) and the Crawl 4 the Cure raffle CJ-5.
A little, but the lines on the gencoupe are far better than the FTO's were. THIS... ...makes me want one.
I saw you wander by but I was busy recruiting. I tried to get your attention to have you hang out for a minute but I missed you. Hope to see you again.
yea, the others in our group were itching to move on. I stopped by later, but you weren't there. but yea, as Carl said. I'll be seeing you more than a few times this summer.
I'll see if she's still there, I literally work across the street from the convention center going to head there soon...haha
Went straight to the Porsche booth to find this curvy lady you guys spoke of. I didn't see her but I saw a lot of beautiful women working at the Auto Show tonight. Anyway, here is the 1 picture that I took the entire time I was there. I was too lazy to continually take my camera out and snap photos...anyway enjoy the picture lol.
finally! my birthday was over a month ago. when you said you were getting me "something big" i thought you were just trying to be a perv. i was debating whether or not to go to the auto show, but i didn't know mark was going to be there! i'll definitely stop by and take some pics
Nope. There are a crap load of FTOs here, so I see them every day. Perhaps your memories of the FTO have been befuddled over time  Stuart.
Well, I spent a few hours there yesterday and here's what I came away with: 1. Bailouts and other crap aside, GM is starting to turn out some damn good cars. Yes, some of them might fall short (but not by much) in some areas while beating the competition in others. As far as value, they're easily beating on some of the competition. 2. I would gladly rob a bank or 10 to get my hands on the new CTS-V. That car is pure sex from the ground up. I preferred sitting in that to the C63 AMG over in the Mercedes Benz booth. Granted, I wouldn't turn down the AMG if it were given to me, but given the ability to buy one new I'd take the Cadillac. 3. A ZR1. I want mine in white or grey please. 4. I was surprised that Mitsubishi wasn't there. The absence of Suzuki didn't surprise me that much, but the lack of Mitsu did. 5. Subaru is succeeding in trying to move upmarket IMO. I'm hearing more and more people talk about them in a positive light. 6. I was glad to see the SCCA booth right in the middle of everything to give them the exposure they deserve. Marks car looked great under the lights 7. It seems like Ford, GM and Chrysler are all upping their game, but I have to give real credit to Ford for not taking bailout money. 8. I could understand the appeal of a Smart car if I lived in a heavily populated urban area and never left it, but the thought of buying one as a commuter car and trying to drive one on MN interstates appeals to me about as much as sticking my hand in a blender. 9. Saab. Who cares anymore? 10. Hyundai is doing an incredible job of putting out amazing cars at affordable price points. When they set out to make a car with 9/10ths the features, handling and performance for a lot less money they do an admirable job indeed.
